- 1 week earlier - Lucy POV
"Ashton! Put me down!" I squealed as I was flung over a broad shoulder. I giggled and began to wriggle and hit his toned, muscular back in the hope that he would free me from his grip.

"If you won't go in the pool willingly, then you leave me no choice but to throw you in Lucy!" Ashton's school girl giggle sounded. Ashton's laugh was one of my favourite things about him but my love for his laugh was nothing compared to the way I loved his eyes. I felt air rush past me as Ashton jumped in the pool with me over his shoulder. We hit the water faster than I anticipated. When we resurfaced I jokingly shoved him away from me only to have him pull me back and snake his arms around my waist. His once bouncy, golden curls were now flat due to the water that resided in them but his eyes still burned brighter than the stars in a twilight sky. I felt the ghost of his breath against my lips as he moved closer to me. I was just letting my eyes slide close and tangling my fingers in his locks of hair when someone cleared their throat interrupting us and ruining the moment.

"Are we interrupting something?" Calum smirked and wiggled his eyebrows in our direction. Luke giggled as I felt a blush creeping up my neck and spreading along my cheeks. My eyes made contact with Michael's and I saw a flash of longing in them before he broke the contact and looked at the ground. Ashton must have noticed the awkward glance too because I felt him tense beneath my arms.

"I'm going to raid your kitchen" Michael spoke for the first time since entering mine and Ashton's garden. Calum and Luke were fast on his flanks.

"What was that about?" I heard Ashton's raspy voice whisper in my ear. I quickly turned my head and pecked his perfectly plump lips.

"I have no idea" I lied once I had pulled away. "We should make sure they aren't starting any fires in our kitchen" I tugged him out of the pool with me and made a beeline to the kitchen where 3 ravenous, Australian teenage boys were rummaging through the cupboards.

"Hey Mikey, I have a new pair of drumsticks. Wanna see?" Ashton beamed from the kitchen doorway. I hadn't noticed but Michael had been staring at me and I watched his head snap away from me in reaction to Ashton's words.

"Yeah, yeah lead the way". He jogged after Ashton who was making his way to the second floor of our home.

"Lucy! Calum stole my chocolate bar!" Luke whined from beside me.

"Lucas Hemmings. I think you will find that it's MY chocolate you stole from the cupboard!" I laughed as he flinched back in mock horror. He and Calum shook their heads before running into the living room and starting to fight over the remote control. "Considering you are both 18, you don't act like it!" I shouted to the two childlike people occupying my sofa. I decided it was time to change out of my bathing suit so I made my way up to the bedroom only to stop outside the door and listen to the voices emanating from the room.

"Well what do you expect! I've grown up with her! I don't want to feel this way! She loves you Ash!" Michael defended against my boyfriend. His voice sounded so broken. Like he was giving up a battle he had fought for so long. I couldn't help but grimace at the sound of it. I had grown up with Michael. He was like a brother to me. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have met Ashton. It was one of the many things I was grateful for from him.

"Well try harder! Maybe you should keep your distance-" Ashton was cut off by Michael whose voice didn't sound as broken as before.

"Do NOT tell me to stay away. I was here before you. You don't have the right to-" I heard the sickening crack of crunching bones. Shuffling was all I heard before the bedroom door fling open to reveal a dishevelled looking Michael holding his jaw.

"I'm leaving" he told me coldly before running down the stairs and out of the door.
