Chapter 2

My eyes fell upon Ashton who was visibly shaking.

"Ashton! What the hell was that!" My voice cracked and his eyes softened.

"I asked him about all the looks and mixed signals he's been giving you and don't tell me you don't know what I'm talking about because we both know you do! He's like a brother to you! He shouldn't be like this with you!" He spat at me. I stood frozen in place at the doorway. Despite the scorching Australian weather outside, I suddenly felt very cold, as I usually did when Ashton became distressed. I had always known Michael liked me but he knew better than to pursue those feelings. Apparently, all the weeks leading into months of stares filled with longing and need had become too much for Ashton to bear. Anger rolled off Ashton's demeanour and his breathing had been deep and ragged.

"Why does it bother you so much? Can't you see I love you? It's YOU that I have been with for 3 years. It's YOU I moved in with. I'm in love with YOU Ashton Irwin. But I won't let you lose one of your best friends. You need to fix this. NOW". Without even realising it, I had manoeuvred myself in front of him during my speech.

"Why does it bother me? I love you Lucy and I don't want to lose you to him. He's everything I'm not. He's better-" I cut him off by crushing my lips against his. I'd heard enough. I had always known of Ashton's insecurities and I was trying to let him get over them. I couldn't help but think back to the last time Ashton's conscience got the better of him. I thought about the bracelets that littered his arm covering what lay on his otherwise perfect skin. I pulled away a couple of minutes later. Gazing up at him, I saw that the love had returned to his golden orbs and that they were now soft.

"Ashton. I'm yours. Now stop worrying about losing me. That isn't going to happen; go and get your best friend". And with that I untangled myself from his grasp and pulled Ashton's All Time Low band tee over my body before making my way back down to the oversized children who were sat on my sofa, snuggled together, watching a movie, completely oblivious to the events that had just played out.
