- Present Time -
Ashton had tried all week to get in contact with Michael. Phone calls, visiting his house, text messages but nothing worked. Michael had isolated himself from us. By the end of the week Ashton's patience began to wear thin and the anger that had resided inside him had bubbled it's way to the surface. But it wasn't Michael he was mad at. It was himself."You can't give up on him Ash. You were best friends long before we got together and I hate that I am causing a rift between you." A stray tear released itself down my face only to be caught by Ashton. His hand rested on my cheek and cupped it.
"I'm not going to give up. I'm going round there now. I am going to fix this." He pressed a chaste kiss to my lips before grabbing his car keys and running out the door. Once he was gone, I was left alone with my thoughts. A dangerous situation as I always feared the worst in any kind of conflict. What if their friendship ended? Could this have been avoided if I wasn't with Ashton? All these questions circled round and round my head. I love Ashton more than my entire being will ever understand but I would not be the cause of their friendship ending. My phone screeched next to me, dragging me out of my prison of thoughts which I was grateful for. I answered it without checking the caller ID.
"Hello?" My voice was shaking.
"Lucy. Calm down. This isn't your fault. I am going to fix this. Stop fearing the worst. I love you." Ashton hung up after that leaving my to listen to the dial tone. My thoughts began to creep back to me after his soothing tone was gone. That phone call was almost 3 hours ago and I was beginning to worry. The t.v. blared music in the background. I wasn't listening to it. I needed background noise, a distraction from the deafening silence which had begun to envelope me shortly after Ashton's phone call.
"Lucy!" I heard my name being called before the pounding on the door began. I ran I answer it and was met by two faces. Two solemn expressions. I knew something had happened. Calum spoke first.
"It's Ash. Michael he... He stabbed him." His words echoed in my head. Turning, I grabbed my car keys and ran for my car with the boys fast on my heels, theirs skinny jeans doing nothing to slow them down.
Hold on Ash, I thought, I'm coming
