Chapter 5

"Are you okay hunnibee?" The question was aimed at me from Alicia. I looked up to meet her eyes, knowing she could read me like a book.

"No, I'm really not fine at all" I told her. She smiled weakly at me. In moments like theses, I was 1000x more grateful to have a best friend like her. She understood me so completely and sometimes I could swear she knew me better than I knew myself.

"Family of Ashton Irwin?" A voice spoke up. My head snapped in their direction. Alicia pulled me up from the floor with her.

"Yes, that's us" she replied. It was a male doctor.

"Well, Mr Irwin is very lucky. The knife barely missed any major organs but did catch an artery but we were able to stop the bleeding before any major problems could arise. He is awake. You can see him if you'd like?" He said, pushing his comb over back into place. I could see that his head glistened with sweat.

"Yes please" I nearly shouted. He chuckled at my response. "Luke? Tell Calum?" He nodded and went in the direction Calum had nearly an hour ago. Since arriving at the hospital, I wasn't sure how much time had elapsed. In my worry for Ashton, time had come to mean nothing to me. Only his well being had mattered. When I glanced at the clock which sat on the wall in the sterile room, I could see we had been here for a little over 2 hours. Being caught up with crying and screaming at Michael had made me lose track of time all together. I let Alicia loosely pull me down the long, daunting corridors that led to Ashton's room. The doctor stepped aside so that we could enter the room and allow us to have some privacy.

"Do you want me to come in or do you want to go in by yourself for a little bit? I can take Michael back to the waiting room?" Alicia asked. I took a deep breath and nodded my head. I wanted her with me. I wasn't sure what state Ashton was in and I sure as hell wasn't prepared to face it alone. Michael was about to protest but I shot him a look that made him shut up. Alicia giggled at him and nudged my side. "he's not so punk rock now is he?" She winked. She looped her arm through mine as we entered. Michael spoke up just as I put my hand on the handle.

"I'm going to go and find Calum and Luke." and with that he spun on his heel leaving me and Alicia stood alone
