Part 4

"That's the first demon I've killed.." you thought. You were happy that it was at least a success, even though you got injured through the process. You started carrying Asuno on your back, because she was getting tired.

"(N/n) I'm.. I'm hungry." She sighed. She looked very cold and tired, so you took off the coat to your kimono and wrapped it around her. "There should be some rice balls in the pockets of that. See if you can find one," You said. You wondered how many more demons you would encounter, hoping that you wouldn't die soon. You had to protect your sister, that's all you cared about at this point. You started to relax, until you heard a scream cry out. "What could it be now?!" You thought in panic. It seemed like it was someone from the demon slayer corps who was in trouble. Darn, this will be hard then.

You ran down the hill as fast as you could, revealing a demon feeding on a corps member. There was another one part of the cooperation, who was just watching. Looks like they lost hope.

You decided that this would be a sneak attack. After all, it would be a dumb move to just cause attention. The demons would notice you more.

You breathed in and out, relaxing your body.

"Star breathing, 5th form.."

"Dark moon!"

The demon suddenly dropped the person they were consuming, looks like it was working. During their distraction, you ran up the demon's arm and cut off their neck.

Second success.

Unfortunately, the person who fell had died, it seemed like. The person who was crying started getting angry.

"Why. WHY?! YOU SAID YOU WOULD NEVER LEAVE ME." They yelled, bailing.

"Excuse me, sir." You calmly said. "I'm sorry for your loss." You slowly walked up to him and hugged him for comfort, but he threw you off.

"HOW.. HOW WOULD YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL?! SHUT UP. SHUT UPPP!!!"

How would you know how he felt? Well, your brother, of course.

You got up and dusted off your kimono. You made eye contact with him and gave him a sad smile. "My brother," thats all you said while you walked past him, continuing your journey.

Your eyes started to water in realization. This was reality. People die like this.. it's the sad truth I know. But you have to accept it. It's pretty common for people to die to demons, nowadays..

"Asuno, are you okay back there? Sorry for the fall, I hope I didn't hurt you or cause you frustration." She mumbled something, but you couldn't tell what it was. Oh well. She must be tired.

Noon hit, and you could tell you were almost at final selection. You decided that you would stay somewhere, and luckily you found a place. It seemed abandoned like nobody owned it, so you stayed there. It was decent shelter, so you figured that neither you or Asuno would get hurt. Phew.

You stayed there a bit to cool down, and made the decision that you would try to get to final selection tonight. You brought something to eat from your house, it was a small dish of baked potatoes and rice. You brought one for your sister, too.

"Thank you for taking me, (n/n).. you could've left me behind but.. you didn't..." Asuno said thankfully. You smiled at her and patted her head. "No problem. That's what your big sister has to do." She smiled back and hugged you.

"Well, we should get going now before I fall behind like you said. Do you want me to carry you?"

She got up. "No, I can walk."

You and Asuno were walking more, until you reached a forest with Purple trees. "Thank god," you thought in relief. You looked around, until you noticed two short girls with the same haircut that seemed to represent yin and yang. Tanjiro was also there, along with three other people. Tanjirou looked at you and waved at you, causing you to wave back. The guy with black hair and a scar across his nose started to get an attitude.

"WHERES MY SWORD?!" He shouted. He went up to the girl and grabbed her by the hair, but she didn't show any emotion whatsoever. You wanted to say something, but Tanjiro stepped up before you could.

"Let go of her!" He said in a serious tone. He grabbed him by the arm and started squeezing it harder and harder, until the guy with black hair let her go.

After this drama was over, the girls started to say something.

"Congratulations on making it to final selection,

Tanjiro Kamado.
(F/n) (l/n).
Genya Shinazugawa.
Zenitsu Agatsuma.
And last but not least,

Kanao Tsuyuri.

We accomplish you for your hard work."

The two girls laid out a set of rocks for the five of you to choose from. You and Tanjiro went for the same one, accidentally placing your hands on top of eachothers. This made both of you blush.

"Oops, I'm sorry, Tanjirou.. you can have that one! I'll choose a different one!" He looked over to you and smiled. "Thank you, (y/n)."

After you chose yours, a bird that looked like an owl flew down to your hand and pecked your arm. "Ouch!! Hey, stop that, would you?!" The owl stopped pecking you, and instead flew on top of your head. Great.

You shooed it off, leaving you a bit pissed off knowing that this disrespectful thing was probably going to follow you for the rest of your journey. Ugh.

The guy that grabbed the girls hair walked up to you. "You aren't supposed to bring little girls, y'know." He scoffed, trying to get on your nerves. "Well I'm sorry, this little girl is my sister thank you very much."

"Yeah your sister, watch her die in the next couple of hours. Pathetic." This made you feel bad. What if you weren't able to protect her..?" You looked down at your feet and sighed. He started grinning, until Tanjirou came up to him.

"Seriously, man. What is your problem?! Leave her alone or else." Tanjiro gave him the same serious look.

"Or else what, huh?"

"I'll squeeze your arm even more until it breaks."

That got him quiet. You felt relieved.

"Thank you, Tanjiro." You smiled.

"Oh! It's nothing." He chuckled a bit. It was always so cute..
