After waking up, me and Annabeth headed downstairs. My mom had made her famous blue pancakes and had talked to Annabeth for a little while before she went home. I couldn't help but notice that she took my hoodie with her. For some reason I liked the idea of her having it.
I started doing the dishes with my mom while Tyson went and built a track with his hot wheels.
"So... you and Annabeth fell asleep." She had a smirk on her face.
"Yea. Tyson didn't want her to leave. He really likes her."
"Good thing. Since you have a crush on her."
"Yea seriously- I mean- no- wait- that's not what I meant!" Why do I have to be so bad at talking?
"I knew it!" She nudged my arm with hers.
"I actually haven't figured it out yet. But I might."
I sighed. Why did this stuff have to be so difficult?
"Well keep me updated when you do. Also her dad knows about you guys and Tyson. He's fine with her staying here."
I stammered.
"Really? He's ok with it?"
"Yea. I talked to him this morning."
"Can't wait to meet him."
Then I realized something. Three days. Annabeth said her step mom was coming in three days. This was that day. Oh no.
"I have to go mom."
I bolted up the stairs into my room to see Annabeth in our tree. She had bruises and scars all over her and tears were falling from her eyes. I opened my window and climbed out. The only noise was the creak of the branch when I stepped on it, and the rumbling of the leaves. I sat down and held her as she sobbed into my shirt. She wrapped her arms around my neck. She was still wearing my hoodie, but it had a big red stain on it. Wine I assumed. We just sat there as she cried, me occasionally playing with her blonde curls. Her crying slowed and she took deep breaths. "Thank you Percy. I'm sorry for bothering you and-"
"Annabeth. Wise girl, no. Your not a problem ok? I care about you and want you to be safe. That's why I'm here. Ok?"
She smiled and hugged me really tight.
"Thanks seaweed brain. Oh!"
She looked down at my swim hoodie.
"Sorry for the hoodie. I'll try to get the stain out."
"Ok wise girl. Now where is that woman?"
"On the couch, drunk as a doornail."
She sighed and looked me in the eyes.
"Well get yourself cleaned up, and go to Thalia's. Just... promise you won't stay there ok?"
I rubbed her cheek with my thumb.
"Ok. I promise."
Her grey eyes were stormy and dark with a hint of red. It was so sad. How could someone hurt her? She was so amazing.
We hugged again and she headed back into her window. And I did the same.
About and hour later I saw a text,

Wise Girl 11:00 am: Heading out to Thalia's. Thanks for calming me down. 🙂

Seaweed Brain 11:01 am: No problem. That's what friends are for! 💙 Tell Thalia I said hi!

Wise Girl 11:02 am: Will do!

And with that I shut off my phone and continued playing my game with Tyson, occasionally plotting her step mothers death in my mind. Don't judge. You would too.

Annabeth

I got to Thalia's house and I knocked on the door. Immediately the door swung open, and there, standing there, was a mad Thalia. She dragged me to the bathroom where she got a towel and wiped the scars with some ointment.
"Annabeth Chase! Why won't you let me kill her? How dare she hurt you!"
"Because I cant have you going to prison and I don't have you here to talk to!"
"You have a point. But still!"
She calmed down and gave me a smile.
"I'm glad we're back Annie. I've missed you."
"I missed you to Thals." We hugged and after cleaning me up, went to go watch a movie. Black widow.
Somehow, the conversation landed on Percy.
She looked me straight in the eye.
"Do you like Percy?"
I could feel my eyes widen.
"I mean yea. He's a great friend! Amazing actually."
"I mean do you  like- like him?"
"Maybe. Still working on it. Tell you when i figure it out though."
"You better tell me!" She hit my shoulder playfully.
"Promise."
We both laughed and she did the "ooooh!" thing with her shoulders. It's good to have my best friend back.
Really good.
