Juli Baker's POV:

I woke up extra early to climb up the Sycamore Tree, like how I always did in Middle School.

When I went up there, the view was amazing! I saw more stuff but still saw the fields I always watched every morning. It was around 6 in the morning and I watched the sunrise. But I felt something moving. I looked down and saw Bryce trying to climb the tree. I could tell he was struggling.

"This your first time climbing a tree?"

"Um, no. Maybe. Yeah, it is." He told me. I hopped down and showed him where to step. We both sat down and stared at the sunrise.

"I really do regret not going up here with you."

"Yeah, I wonder why you never did come up here." I chuckled.

"I do have a question though. Why were you always up here? Or why were you always attached to the tree?"

"Well when my dad was painting, he asked me why I'm attracted to you. I told him why and he said what about him? He went on saying a painting is more than the sum of its parts, the cow by itself is just a cow, and the meadow by itself is just grass and flowers, and the sun peeking through the trees is just a beam of light, but put them all together and you've got magic. I never understood until I went up into the tree and saw the view. It was my thinking spot. The place I felt safe. Where I was happy. That's why I was crying when no one went up."

Bryce Loski's POV:

I saw a tear fall down from her eye to her cheek. I wiped it off. I felt like a jerk now that I know why that tree meant so much to her. Before I thought it was just an ugly useless tree. But now I know there's so much more to it.

"You know the view isn't the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

"What do you mean?"

"It's you Juli Baker." She blushed as her eyes widened. I pushed her hair behind her ear analyzing her face. I was going to go in for a kiss but she pushed back.

"Have you met anyone new? Any new friends or people?"

"What? No. Not that I know of."

"Stop lying Bryce."

"What do you mean?"

"I know you have a girlfriend." It went quite. "What's her name?"

"...Ruby."

"When did you guys meet?"

"We were science partners last year and we hit it off I guess."

"That's good." She looked at me with tears rolling down her eyes. "I'm happy for you Bryce. I really am." She went down the tree and went inside.

What have I done? I really screwed up this time, didn't I?
