'Cause That's All It Meant To Him

I freeze up as he kisses me. It was weird at first, but I couldn't seem to pull myself away from him. Instead, I just sat there, frozen.

He pulls away finally, blushing almost as much as I was, and trying to read my face. I'm not sure what my expression gave off, but I'm sure it was something subtle like 'What the fuck just happened.'

His eyes widen and he starts getting all defensive. "Holy shit, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to do anything you weren't comfortable with I just started leaning in and once I started I couldn't stop and-"

"John." I interrupt. He stops and stares at me. "Calm down." I tell him.

He nods. "Right, right..It...It didn't mean anything..." He says, almost like he was trying to convince himself.

I feel my heart sink. Didn't mean anything?

"What do you mean, it didn't mean anything?" I ask, trying not to seem hurt. Why would I be hurt? I don't like John Laurens. There is no reason I should be feeling hurt right now.

"Well, it's just...hormones...Yeah, that's it. I'm sorry, um.." He pauses, as if he's trying to think of some good excuse. "I haven't had a fling with anyone in a while, that must've been it. Because I can guarantee that, um, I'm straight."

I stare at him a little longer before nodding. "Yeah, yeah I know that." I then shake my head. "I cannot believe you just compared me to one of your flings." I scoff.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean it like that it's just...The only...Rational explanation.." He says cautiously.

"Right, right." I stand up and gather my stuff and he sits up straight. "Are you leaving?" He asks.

I raise an eyebrow and nod. "Yes, of course I am John. It's awkward now."

"So, what? You're just going to leave every time it gets awkward?" He asks.

"Yes, John. I am. Maybe you should stop making it awkward."

"Maybe you should stop being so attractive." He mumbles, thinking I can't hear him.

I blush madly, and when he notices, he blushes as well. "See, this is what I'm talking about. It's awkward, you're making it awkward."

"Okay, okay I get it. If you want to go, then go." He says quietly.

I nod and finish getting my stuff together. I see John panic and he reaches for my hand before I can exit his room.

"Wait, please, don't leave...Stay..." He says.

I hesitate, but find I can't say no as I slowly sit back down on his bed. "What..Do you want to do?" I ask.

He gets closer to me. "Experiment..." He says in a low voice.

Did I sleep with John Laurens?

The logical answer would be no, of course I didn't. I went home after working on college stuff and talking in a completely platonic way, no questions asked.

But.

If you look at things from any other point of view, definitely. After sneaking out of John's window (which was very difficult, might I add since he was on the second floor), I walked home, honestly a little sore. He wasn't my first, of course, but he was the first in a while.

I walk home and announce I'm home, like usual, and see Theodosia texting on her phone on the couch. "You're home pretty late today." She says, raising an eyebrow but not looking up at me.

I nod. "Yeah, I was hanging out with Herc and Laf." I lie. "Who are you texting? Are they really that important you can't look up at me?" I tease.

She rolls her eyes. "I'm texting my online friend, Always Cold." She says.

Always Cold was a person she met through some game and has been talking to since last year. She doesn't know his name, and he doesn't know hers, but other than that they're pretty close. Theo is just afraid to tell him she's a foster kid because she's afraid he won't like her after she does. I told her that was bullcrap, but she didn't believe me.

"Ah, I see. Your online boyfriend who could very well be a serial killer?" I ask and she throws a pillow at me. I chuckle and she finally looks at me, tilting her head in confusion.

"What? What's wrong?"

"Alex, this is the third consecutive day you have come home without a new bruise on your face. I don't know if I should be happy or worried." She says.

I roll my eyes and throw the pillow back at her. "Oh, shut up, you weirdo."

I go up to my room and see Laf is calling me. I pick up and sit on my bed. "Hello?"

"Why is Theodosia texting me, asking if you were with me and Herc?"

"What did you tell her?" I ask.

"Well, I covered for you, of course. Told her we all went to my house and hung out. But where were you that's got her all suspicious?"

I debate telling him. On one hand, he would be mad if I kept it from him. But on the other hand, he would be way more mad if he found out I was...Hanging out at John's house.

"I was staying after school, talking to some guy. Lost track of time, I guess. I didn't want her to think I was irresponsible, so I told her I was with you guys."

"Oh...Okay. Kinda lame, but whatever man, it's your life. Was this guy cute? What were you talking about?"

I chuckle gently. "Can we talk about this tomorrow? I have homework I have to get done."

"Oh, fine. But I'm calling Herc now. You know how he gets when he's left out on details like that."

We both chuckle and say our goodbyes before I hang up the call. I turn my music on and pull out mine and John's homework, making sure to write in Laurens' handwriting on his paper. As I wrote, I couldn't help but smile as I thought about John. Sure, I didn't like him, I think, but it was nice to know he liked me. I didn't think anyone could feel that way about me, honestly.

Okay, I can see y'all are kinda bored with this and I'm really close to finishing the pre-written chapters, so I'm going to start updating this book every other day. I don't know why, but I really like ending books (don't worry tho, there are like almost 40 chapters I think so it won't be for a while).

Anyway yeah, be on the lookout for that
