"Alright, seniors. You may move your tassel to the other side of your cap. You are now graduates!"

The crowd cheered and everyone threw their caps up in the air. I look a couple rows behind me and see John smiling, taking a photo of me. I roll my eyes playfully and pose for him before running over to him, hugging him.

He hugs back. "Congratulations, Alex. you did it."

I smile and hug him tighter. "You did, too. I'm so excited."

He kisses the top of my head and Peggy runs over to us. "Last one to the restaurant pays for dessert." She says before running back to her sisters.

John chuckles and grabs my hand, starting to run towards his car. He had started driving after his father finally let him back in his house, and let him get his license. He's made it clear multiple times that he doesn't like what John's doing with his life, but John keeps reminding him that it's not his choice, and he can somewhat respect that.

John drives us to the restaurant for our graduation party, holding my hand the whole time. We arrive and soon find out that Lafayette and Hercules were the lucky contenders paying for everyone's desserts.

"So, Alex, when do you and John leave for New Jersey?" Angelica asks, sitting between her youngest sister and her boyfriend, Thomas Paine.

I hold John's hand. "We're leaving tomorrow, we want to be able to get jobs and such before we go to college."

"You guys are going to be so happy in New Jersey." Peggy's new girlfriend, Maria says. Maria went to a different school, so they met at a cheer competition. They were pretty much a perfect match for each other.

I smile at her and nod before turning to the rest of the people. Eliza was sitting next to Hercules and Lafayette, and then there was Theodosia and Aaron, as well as Grace and almost everyone else's parents, with the exception of John's dad and Maria's mom.

The rest of the night went on as planned, but more fun. Grace was even a little like her old self tonight, which was a definite bonus. She had never been the same since her son passed, but who can really blame her?

John kisses me before he leaves to his own house. "I'll see you in the morning, alright?"

I nod at him and he waves before leaving.

The next morning, he does as promised and shows up on my doorstep, his car filled with his bags, leaving space for my bags. He helps me get my stuff into the trunk of his car and then I go back into the house and hug Theodosia tightly.

"Call if you need anything, and I'll be driving right back down here." I tell her and she giggles. "I'll be fine, Alex." She says.

Her and Aaron were both going to King's College, and had decided not to room together yet, since their relationship was still sort of new to them. "Any problems with Aaron and you'll at least text, right?"

She smiles at me. "Of course."

I then turn to Grace and she raises an eyebrow at me. "Grace, thank you for keeping me all these years. I know we never really became the family we wanted, but I'm still grateful for you." I hug her and she seems shocked, but hugged back slowly.

"You're gonna blow us all away, kid." She whispers and I nod at them before getting into the car with John. He looks over at me as I buckle up and I raise an eyebrow at him.

"What is it? Did we forget something?" I ask, grabbing the door handle and getting ready to exit once again.

He shakes his head and holds my hand. "No, it's not that, it's just.. I'm so happy that this is a reality. I never imagined my life like this, and I couldn't ask for anything better."

I giggle gently and he pulls me into a long, slow kiss. After we pull away, I look to the road and point. "To Jersey!" I proclaim and he chuckles and starts driving down the road.

"John, did you go shopping this week?" I ask as I search through the half empty cupboards.

There was a long moment of silence before I hear him curse to himself. "Of course I did! On a completely unrelated note, I'm going to go for a drive." He calls from the other room.

I roll my eyes and walk to our bedroom in our tiny apartment, leaning against the door frame and watching as he rushed to get his hoodie and shoes on. "John, I know you didn't. Our cupboards are like half empty."

He sighs softly. "Fine, fine, you got me. I'm sorry, the aquarium has been kicking my butt this past week."

I shrug and walk in, sitting next to him on our bed. "It's fine, I'll go with you."

"Oh, you don't have to, I know it's my turn this week-"

"It's okay, we both have the day off today, and I start school next week. I wanna spend as much time with you as possible." I give him a kiss on the cheek and he smiles and finishes putting his shoes on.

"Okay, get ready to go, I'll be waiting in the car." He says before I run to get my shoes on. I throw my messy hair into a low ponytail and then go to join my boyfriend in his car. We drive to the store and start browsing, and John sighs softly.

"Are you ready to go to college?" He asks, picking up a can of soup and inspecting it.

I shrug. "I mean, I would hope so. My classes start next Monday."

"I know, but what about us? You think we'll be alright in the end?" He asks, still not looking over at me, but I could see the sadness and worry in his eyes nonetheless.

I frown and grab the can from him, setting it down on the shelf. I hold his hands and he finally looks over at me. "I think we'll be fine, John. Sure we're going to different schools, but we will still be living together."

He nods slowly. "I know, I know. I just.. Promise me you won't find some new, smart, lawyer person and leave me for them.." He says, squeezing my hands.

"Why would I want that, when I have a cute and creative artist right in front of me?" I ask, smiling at him.

He smiles back. "Thank you, Alex."

"You have nothing to worry about, John. I love you." I tell him, kissing him quickly before turning back to the shelf, picking up the can I set down for him. "This soup looks good."

He leans his head on mine. "It does. I was thinking I could make it for dinner tonight."

I set the can in the cart and then he grabs another one, setting it next to the other. "I love you too, by the way."

I smile. "I know, John. That's why I'm not worried about us. I think we can get through anything that comes our way." I explain as I walk down the aisle.

"And to think, this all started because I needed you to do my homework for me."

I think about it a moment and chuckle. "Well, it's a good thing I said yes, then."

He smiles and nods. "Yeah, definitely."

I turn and kiss him again, not caring that we were in the middle of the grocery aisle. People could get around us. Nothing could tear us apart at this moment. He was mine, and I was his. And it was perfect.
