"No."

"Please-"

"No, absolutely not. Why the hell are you even bothering me?"

"Because Grace is bothering me and I don't feel like dealing with her right now. If you come home, she'll be in a better mood."

"I'm about to watch the movie, I'm not coming home just so you don't have to deal with Grace. Go to your friend's house or something."

"Theo, please-"

"I'm on a date, leave me alone."

I groan as the call ends and set my phone down. I hated being home, especially when Theodosia wasn't here. Theo was Grace's favorite child, so when Theo was home, Grace was annoying, but tolerable. When Theo was gone, Grace freaked out at me for the tiniest things.

Right now, I'm hiding in my room because she yelled at me for breaking the dishwasher, even though I had nothing to do with that. I call Lafayette next to see if I could spend the night at his place instead.

Timeskip brought to you by the only man who can give us a command

"Alex! You're here, finally." Laf calls after I enter the house. I see him sitting in Hercules's lap on the couch, messing with the bandanna on his head.

"Well you know I had to walk. If I knew Herc was here I would've made him come pick me up." I tease and sit down next to them.

Laf shrugs and ties the bandanna into a bow. "He was busy."

Herc chuckles gently. "No, Gil, you were busy. I was stuck."

Laf pouts and I quickly intervene. "Anyway, what do you guys want to do? Because as much as I love sitting around and watching you two flirt all night, I want to do something else."

Lafayette nods. "Okay..How about we talk, then?" He suggests.

"Talk about what, Marquis?" Hercules asks as he plays with his hair.

Damn they were a really cute couple, but I must admit it did make me slightly jealous. I can see why they didn't tell me right away.

"Well, um..." Laf pauses and sighs. "I talked to John and Peggy-"

"Wait, what? When?" Herc asks, sitting up as much as he could.

I raise an eyebrow. "About what?"

"Well, you, Alex." He says nervously.

I shake my head. "I don't want to hear what he had to say, it's all probably a lie anyway."

"Alex, that's the thing, I don't think he was lying." He tries to explain.

"I don't care, I'm done with him, I don't want to hear his lame excuses."

"Yeah, John's not a good person, we know this, babe." Herc says, giving Laf a concerned look. "Whatever he told you probably was just some way to get Alex to do his homework again."

Laf shook his head. "No, he didn't bring up homework at all. He was trying to talk to me so I could talk to you."

I scoff. "Too scared to come up to me myself?" I ask.

"Alex, you've been ignoring and shutting him down every time he's tried to." Laf points out.

Herc sighs. "Laf's got a point.."

I frown. "Whose side are you on?"

"Yours, Alex. I'm just stating facts, and you know this too."

I sigh. "Fine, fine. So I don't want to talk to him. I have good reason not to."

"Exactly." Hercules nods.

Lafayette just shakes his head at us. "Not from what I can tell. I told him that you took it as he was being homophobic or whatever-"

"Because he was." I state. "I told you what he said, how could it be taken any other way? He was trying to play a trick on me."

"Alex, that wasn't the case-"

"What do you mean that wasn't the case? That's not even possib-"

"It is, too. You just have to listen-"

"Listen to more lies?"

"They're not lies Alex if you would just-"

"They are too, lies! Everything John says is a lie-"

"Jésus-Christ, veux-tu déjà te taire?" Lafayette asks. (Jesus Christ, will you just shut up already?)

I frown and relax back into his couch. I cross my arms and stare at him. "Fine. Tell me what he told you."

Laf sighs a breath of relief. "Alex, the reason he said he wasn't supposed to be with a guy wasn't because he was homophobic. It's because his dad is." He explains.

I look over at Hercules to see his reaction. He was staring at Laf with a skeptical look, and then looks over at me. "I don't know, Alex..What do you think?" He asks.

"It seems far fetched and like an excuse to me." I raise an eyebrow.

"I was kind of thinking the same thing." Hercules nodded.

"Well, he seemed sincere. You weren't there when he told me, he was nervous and really cared that he got through to me."

"And he saw that you were eating it all up, he took advantage of that and started spewing as many lies as possible." I say.

He shakes his head. "I wasn't eating it all up. I was just as skeptical as you are, I went home and thought about it before I even started to think he was telling the truth."

"And why did you talk to him in the first place?" I ask. "Suddenly you're on his side?"

"Why are you so obsessed with sides, Alex?" He groans. "We're all in this together, I'm not working against you, I'm your friend, and you're mine. I talked to him because I really, really wanted this to work out for you. You were happy with John, I could tell."

Hercules sighs. "He has a good point there. I hate John, truly, but you were happy with him. You may think you were hiding it, but you weren't very good at it."

I struggle to respond. Of course I was happy with him, but none of that mattered anymore. It was happiness created and based off of lies. That's not a good enough reason for me to forget everything else that happened.

"Look, I talked to him because I was hoping it was all one big misunderstanding. I was hoping there was a chance something could happen between you two." He says.

I look down at my lap. "What else did you guys talk about?" I ask.

"Well, I asked about the date thing and why he suddenly asked you out, and he said it was one of his last resorts to get you to talk with him, to hear him out. You rejected him, which is why he talked to me. He was hoping he could get through to me, and then I could get through to you."

I nod slowly. "I don't know if that's working or not..Anything else...?"

"I...Before leaving, I asked if he actually liked you. His cheeks turned a bright shade of pink, and he said yeah. I think that reaction was the deal breaker for me." Laf says, leaning into Herc.

Herc holds him and nods slowly. "Alex, I think you should talk to John.." He says.

I sigh. "Fine. I'll...I'll give him a chance. But what if I get hurt again?"

"Then we will be there to personally hurt him." Hercules smiles.

I chuckle gently. "Okay..I'll text him tomorrow, asking about that date he offered, then. For right now, let's just hang out. Talk about something else."

They nod. "Alright, sounds good."

"Let's make pancakes!"
