"What are you guys doing here?" I ask bitterly.
Lafayette winces slightly and Hercules sighs at the response. "We came to watch you debate." Herc says.
I furrow my brows at them. "That doesn't sound like you guys. You always said there was no point in watching me do something I do on a daily basis."
"Well, in case you haven't noticed, we haven't exactly gotten to watch our favorite Caribbean debate with anyone in a little while." Laf says.
I roll my eyes and Herc sighs. "Alex, listen, we know we should have told you. We're in the wrong in this situation, and we're sorry.." He says.
"But you can't just keep ignoring us. We miss hanging out with you." Laf finishes. They both look at me and I sigh, looking off to the side. I see Aaron and Theo laughing and I frown back at the two in front of me.
"I'm not mad that you two are together. I'm happy for you, really." I start. "I'm just...Why did you keep it from me? We tell each other everything, yet you guys kept something like this from me.."
"To be fair, we weren't the only ones-" Herc cut Laf off by placing a hand on his thigh. Herc gives me a weary smile.
"Alex, we're sorry. We thought it was better if we kept our relationship a secret for a little longer, especially since you were dealing with your own relationship problems." He explains.
I know what Laf was going to say. He was going to say something about me keeping what happened between John and I a secret. And he was right, it wasn't fair that I kept it from them.
The only difference is I did tell them, I didn't wait until they found out.
"That's no reason I shouldn't know if you two are dating or not. That's not fair to you guys, and it's not fair to me. I could've handled it had you come out and told me right away." I say.
"I know, I know, it's just-"
"Debaters! Lunch break ends in five minutes, get with your teams and get ready for the next session!" A lady calls over the speaker.
"Alright, get over here, let's discuss!" Washington says boldly. I look back at the two across from me and shrug.
"I gotta go. I appreciate the apology, though." I stand up and walk over to join the group, Angelica subtly shoving me away from her and pulling Thomas Paine between us. Their on and off relationship was back on, what a shocker.
Theo and Aaron come stand next to me, both seemingly happy. As Washington talks to us, Theo leans in and whispers, "Are Laf and Herc here?"
I nod, not saying a word to her as I tried paying attention to what Washington was telling us. "Did you talk to them?" I nod again and I see her smile through my peripheral vision.
"It's a step. I'm glad they're here to support you, I'm going to go invite them to sit with Aaron and I."
I turn to stop her, but before I could, she was gone. I sigh and turn back to Washington as he wraps up his little pep talk. "Alright, now go out there, and argue with facts." He says.

"Alright Theo, you rea-"
I shake my head. "Where's Theo?" I ask.
"Aaron's giving her a ride home, Alex. So I thought I'd offer to take you home?" Hercules says. They really didn't give up, did they.
I sigh. "Fine, but let's get going so I can be there when Aaron is there." I say, walking straight to Herc's car. The drive from the school to my house wasn't far, and I was sure Aaron was probably there by now, but I figured he'd stay to talk to Theodosia a little longer.
They drive me home, none of us saying a word the whole ride, though I could tell Lafayette wanted to. Before I could exit the car, Laf stops me. "Wait, Alex?" I stop and raise an eyebrow at him.
"It was good to see you again. Even if you really didn't talk to us much." He smiles at me. "See you at school Monday."
I hesitate but nod and exit the car. As they drive off, I see Aaron getting back into his car, getting ready to drive off. I walk over and knock on his window. He jumps slightly but rolls it down. "Oh, hey, Alex, didn't see you there."
"So, what's the move with Theo?" I ask.
"Uh-um, what do you mean?" He asks back.
I place my elbows on the car door, leaning towards him slightly. "You guys were talking for a long time, you taking her out or..?"
He nods. "Oh, right, that. Um, yeah, I asked her out."
"When and where?"
"Friday night, we're going to the movies and then I figured I'd take her to get dinner before." He says, a bit of nervousness in his voice.
I nod slowly and look back at the house, and then at him. "Listen, I may not be her real brother, but she's the closest to family that I've got. Don't get handsy with her, and don't hurt her. She doesn't need heartbreak or anything like that, you got it?"
He nods quickly. "Oh, yeah definitely. Don't worry, I won't hurt her."
I give him a skeptical look before sighing. "Alright, I'll see you at school, then. Later, Aaron." I wave and he waves back before I walk into the house. Once I close the door, Theo looks over at me.
"Oh God, you caught Aaron before he left, didn't you?" She asks, frowning.
I chuckle and nod. "I did, what's so wrong with that?"
"What did you tell him? You better not have scared him off!" She gives me a stern look and I chuckle again.
"Calm down, I just asked him a couple things and then told him to be careful." I say. "I know you two have been talking for a little while, so I'm not really too worried about his interest in you." I sit down next to her and she looks at me skeptically still.
She then sighs and leans back into the couch. "Who would've thought the guy I've been interested in for like a year now was going to your school?"
I shrug. "Not me. And I for sure didn't think it was Aaron. That guy...Well, it seemed that he had no game." I tease as she slaps my arm.
"Shut up, he's a very charming person. He's really nice, especially to me." She says. "We're going out on Friday, and no, you're not coming."
Before I could reply to her, Grace walks in. "What do you think you're doing Friday?" She asks, walking through the livingroom to the kitchen.
Theo looks at me and then sighs, standing up. "I got asked out, Grace. I'm going to the movies with this kid from Alex's school on Friday."
She raises an eyebrow and looks over at me. "Your school, huh? You know this kid?"
I nod. "Yeah, he's on my debate team, he's a good person." I say, leaning back into the couch.
Grace sighs and leans against the counter, looking as if she were debating something. "You'd better get all your chores done this week if you think you're going." She says. "Both of you."
We both nod and say in unison, "Yes, Grace."
She nods with a smug look and then grabs her snack before going back to her room. Theo and I look at each other and she rolls her eyes. "You'd better finish all your chores this week, Alex."
I chuckle. "Of course I will. I do want you to go on this date, believe it or not."
She smiles gently and nods. "Well..Thank you."
I shrug. "Anytime, Theo."
