Chapter Eighteen

"WHAT?" She asks, shock taking over her features.

"I mean, we have to fake date." I tell her and her face falls even more.

"Why?" She asks, pulling away from me and taking a step back, causing me to frown.

"The media isn't going to give it a rest until they have what they want, so we might as well give it to them." I explain and she nods slowly.

"Oh." She whispers, turning to walk away but I pull her back to me.

"What's the matter?" I ask her, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"Nothing. I'm just tired and stuff." She shrugs, pecking my lips before walking to the bed.

I watch as she silently shuffles into bed, making herself comfortable. Ever since I told her that we have to fake date, she's been acting distant. I get into bed beside her, feeling the need to reach out and hug her, but I don't know if she will be comfortable with it.

"Samara?"

She sighs. "Yeah?"

"Cuddles?" I ask with a pout even though she's not looking at me.

She stays silent for a while before turning to me with a small, shy smile. "You didn't have to ask."

She throws her hands around me, positioning her body on top of mine. I circle my arms around her lower back, pressing her body into mine. She sighs, burying her face into my chest. I bring my one hand up and stroke her hair because I know how much she loves that. She purs, littering my jaw with kisses. I flip us over and she squeals, wrapping her legs around my waist. I rest my head in the crook of her neck and I hear her mumble something incoherent before darkness took over.

The weekend goes by quickly, and I make sure Samara uses my shirt for the game on Sunday because I actually played this one. We beat Belgium 2 — 1, coming from the back to secure the victory. That evening Samara made sure to show me how much she loved watching the game.

I wake up on Monday morning and I find the bed empty, much to my dismay. I know she's not in the flat; she probably left for work. She'd take any opportunity to leave the flat because I haven't been allowing her to do so these past few days. I also managed to find time and track down this Dagger she owes money too. I paid him off, but I don't know how Samara will react. And I don't think it will be good because she likes to be independent. I'm also thinking about sending her aunt to rehab but a private one that will guarantee us good results. I've said it before and I'll say it, I'll do anything to make Samara happy.

I'm a little reluctant to go to her office Monday evening because by now she should know about all the things I did behind her back. And I don't feel like getting a lecture. When I walk through the front door, Edith gives me a knowing look, and I gulp, knowing that Samara knows and she's not happy about it.

I knock on her door and don't wait for her to reply before going in. She's already standing on the other side, with her arms folded and eyes set in a harsh glare. Her office is empty, showing no signs of anyone else, not even the little red head baby. Come to think of it, there isn't any media downstairs. I don't think they wanted to come to her work place. They must still be all camping out by my place.

"I got a message from Dagger saying that my debt has been paid in full. Imagine my shock because I know that I haven't paid anything back yet." She states angrily.
