Almost a week had passed and Lucy had yet to hear anything from her mother about being a witness to the wedding. Luca said that she wasn't feeling good which was code for she's been drinking again. After the death of her father, Lucy's mother had not left the house since the funeral and Lucy knew it's her fault but she also knew that if she didn't then Jonathan would be dead. She shook the thoughts from her head as she focused on her phone, which was now ringing. Looking at the caller ID, she smiled when it showed that it was her mom.
"Mom, I'm so glad you called," Lucy said after picking up the phone.
"Your brother wouldn't shut up about it. I understand that you want me to be a witness to this wedding thing that I still think is a bad idea but I don't know if I'm the right fit for it," Gloria said, her voice thick and her words slurred meaning that she was drinking.
"Mom, it's okay, why don't we talk about this when you're sober, okay?" Lucy sighed trying to not let any of the pain she felt out.
After a few more words they hung up and Lucy sighed sadly looking at Jonathan who looked up from his book that they recently got as a gift from his lawyer.
"Hey are you okay?" he asked, putting the book mark in the book before getting up to walk to her.
Lucy shook her head no as she cried in his shoulder while she felt him wrap his arms around her. She explained to him what happened and Jonathan stayed silent giving Lucy time to finish talking. Then he picked her up and took her to the bathroom where he drew her a bath using her favorite bath salts before taking off her morning workout clothes and lowering her into the warm water. She sighed feeling the water loosening her sore body making her relaxed. She smiled when Jonathan gave her a massage on both shoulders and then feet before rubbing her body down with her favorite rose scented oils that her brother got her for her birthday a month ago.
"Lucy, your mother will become sober and she will be there because in the end. You're her daughter and she will always do anything to make sure you're happy and well taken care of," Jonathan explained as he began to wash her hair.
"I hope you're right Jonathan. The last thing I need is for my mom to not show up and everything will be ruined for us. I just want you to finally have the life you always wanted," Lucy sighed staring at the window.
"I already got the life I wanted when I fell in love with you. You're the reason why I decided to keep fighting, Lucy. You gave me the life I didn't even know I needed. You are the reason why I saw the light at the end of my tunnel," Jonathan said taking her hand in his as he kissed it.
Lucy had no words as she looked at him with love in her eyes. She never knew that Jonathan felt this way and she never thought that she made a big difference in his life. But hearing these words coming from him made her heart swell as she pulled him into a kiss before getting out of the tub as he wrapped her in a towel.
"You will always be my angel, never forget that," Jonathan whispered as he left to get her clothes ready on the bed.
Lucy smiled to herself as she looked at her engagement ring. Then she left the bathroom pulling on the clothes as Jonathan made her breakfast. She peeked around the corner then snuck away to the small dresser that was tucked away in the corner. She pulled open the drawer and pulled out the pregnancy test she took yesterday. She bit her lip in nervousness as she stared at the small plus sign. She wanted to tell Jonathan as soon as she found out but instantly thought that it would be the best gift for their wedding day. She knew that Jonathan would worry about the baby more than the wedding and she didn't want that so she waited.
"Lucy breakfast is ready!" Jonathan called out making her jump.
"Coming!" she called back.
She quickly put the test back and brushed her hair back trying to seem normal as she went to the kitchen to see omelettes and freshly made orange juice. She smiled seeing the now orange stained apron as she sat at the table.
"You didn't have to make breakfast. I was perfectly fine with eating cereal." Lucy said digging into the cheesy omelette.
Jonathan shrugs as he sits down with his plate and coffee. "I know but it's not every day I cook so I figured I'd give you something else to eat."
She nods and smiles, finishing her food minutes later. Lucy decided to go over plans one more time, making Jonathan laugh as he hugs her.
"The plans are perfect love you did them yourself so relax love please your worrying over nothing," Jonathan said, rubbing her arms from behind.
She knew Jonathan was right so she put the book away and cuddled into him as he read his book late into the night as he then took her to the bed and soon fell asleep next to her. But Lucy stayed awake as she worried about the what ifs for her wedding day. The only time she fell asleep is when the birds chirped in the morning sun.
