It was the time when Manami was a student of section A and Karma was not yet involved with pranks. The English teacher had just taken a surprise test the day before and was back with the answer sheets.
He starts calling the students' names and as expected Karma and Asano were tied in the first place. He calls Manami's name in a more serious tone and calls her to the front.
"What is this Manami? Your score is the lowest in the class, do you not want to pass?"
"I'm sorry sensei, I don't understand English very much actually I don't like this subject, it's too hard to understand all these words and I don't understand what you teach me either."
The teacher was irate, he couldn't believe his ears. He couldn't believe that a student was criticizing his way of teaching.
"How dare you, get out of my class." The teacher sends Manami out of the classroom.
Manami silently steps out of the classroom, the students were muttering among themselves and Karma silently observed the nerd girl who dared to speak up against the teacher.
Manami stood outside lost in her thoughts when she hears the teacher call her name. The period was over and the teacher instructed Manami to go back to her seat. Manami silently walks back to her seat ignoring all the glances of her classmates that were making her uneasy, she could hear them talking between themselves and she was sure they're talking about her and how foolish she acted in front of the teacher.
She spent the whole day ignoring people and luckily it was also time for school to get over, she couldn't wait to go home and bury her face in the pillow and maybe cry a river about it. She was walking alone when she hears someone approaching her, she turns back and sees her classmate the red head boy waving to her, confused and thinking it was not at her Manami keeps on walking when the red head catches up to her.
"Hey, Okuda san right?" He smiled gleefully.
"Y-Yes..." Answered a nervous Manami.
"I'm Akabane Karma, you can call me Karma."
"Why are you talking to me, Karma kun?" Questions a serious Manami.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not someone a student like you would or should talk to. You're a popular student and I'm just a nobody." Answers Manami while her expressions remained the same.
"You're really straightforward aren't you?" He chuckles.
Manami blushes a little before composing herself properly.
"That's why people don't like me. I don't know how to put my feelings into better words, words that don't hurt others. I hate myself for that."
"Hmmm... I on the other hand think that's not a very bad thing at all." Exclaims Karma.
An amused Manami looks up at Karma confused at his answer.
"I don't get you. Why do you think like that?" Manami wanted answers.
"I mean it makes you honest, you don't hide things from people. It makes you a genuine person, which many people are not. It may make you sound mean but you mean good only. Wasn't that the case today?" Karma raises an eyebrow.
Manami stood still on her place, her head was down and she was silent. Karma was worried for a moment, he walks back to her when he sees that she was crying.
"I'm so sorry Okuda san, I didn't mean to make you cry. I'm so sorry." Karma apologized. He honestly felt bad for making Manami cry.
"No... " Says Manami while tears were still pouring from her eyes. "It's just no one has told me something like this. I really didn't mean to say mean things to sensei, it's just I don't know how to do it. You're the first one to understand me." Manami sniffs as she continued crying.
Karma couldn't see the girl crying, he genuinely didn't want to see her crying face because it just made him feel like he's the guilty one.
"Please don't cry Okuda san." Comforted Karma.
Manami leans and lays her head on Karma, startling him a little but he let her lay her head and cry out on his shoulder. Surprisingly enough after crying for around half an hour, Manami wiped her tears. She notices that Karma's shirt was wet from her tears.
"I-I'm sorry Karma kun. I wet your shirt."
"It's okay Okuda san, I'm just glad you could cry your heart out. It feels lighter now doesn't it?"
Manami nods.
"Now can I see a smile on your face?"
Manami puts up a smile on her face and Karma's heart instantly melts. Her smile looked so precious, it was so precious and beautiful that he promised to himself that he'll never let her cry ever again.
"I'll never let you cry ever again, Okuda san." Says Karma while brushing her hair lightly.
