Tearing up is something Karma didn't like doing, no matter how bad the situation was he'd never let tears come down. The most that he cried was when Koro sensei died and the last he cried was when his daughter was born.
Akabane Rika is 3 years old now, Karma gives a lot of attention to his daughter and Manami has been having a very busy schedule, she's just discovered artificial blood and the research attracted international attention which led her to attending her daughter less and Karma wasn't very pleased with it.
"Manami, you haven't been home for 4 days now. Rika needs you too you know."
"I'm really sorry Karma kun, I'll try my best to come home today."
"You've been saying that for the past 2 days, this cannot go on for longer Manami."
"I know Karma kun and I feel really guilty about this too but please understand my situation too. I love-"
Karma cuts the call. Annoyed he slams his phone and almost breaks it. He was pissed and angry but he hears someone tugging his pants. He turns around and sees his young daughter signalling him to pick her up. He picks up Rika in his arms and puts her in her baby chair and feeds her food.
"I'm sorry Rika, your mother is really busy but lets hope she comes back today."
Karma takes his daughter to a daycare as he leaves for his job and as he expected Manami didn't come home on that day either and Karma was getting more and more pissed.
The next day, early morning Manami arrives. She checks on her daughter eating food.
"Manami, you're a day late."
"I'm sorry Karma kun. I really wanted to come back as soon as I could but thing-"
"Stop it Manami. I've had enough of it. You care more about your work than our daughter. Your research is futile if you can't even give time for the family."
"No, that's not true, I care about our daughter-"
"We need to part ways." Says Karma
Manami was taken aback, her eyes widened. She couldn't believe what she heard.
"Wh-What are you saying Karma kun."
"Until and unless you learn to give time to Rika, I'm moving out of here."
-----------------------------
Two days have passed since Karma moved out of their house, Manami has been desperately trying to contact Karma but to no avail.
Manami's phone rings but Karma cuts her call, she calls him again and again but he keeps on cutting it and switches off his phone. An hour later he opens his phone again and sees more than 40 missed calls from Manami. He sees a message from her.
Please pick up my call Karma kun. I really need to talk to you. I won't be able to live without you two.
A reluctant Karma dials Manami's number but someone else picks the call.
"Hello, Mr. Karma, this is from Kunugigaoka Hospital. May I know how are you related to the owner of the phone." Asks the caller.
"I'm Akabane Karma and she's my girlfriend but why are you calling from the hospital. Is Manami okay." Karma was concerned.
"I'm really sorry to inform you but miss Manami met with an accident."
Karma gasps, his eyes widened.
"Accident? Where? When?"
"Please reach the hospital as soon as you can."
Karma cuts the call and rushes to Kunugigaoka Hospital. Through panick and worry he finds Manami. She was still inside the operation room. A nurse steps outside the room and Karma rushes to her.
"Nurse, my girlfriend is in there. What happened to her exactly."
"The reports say that she was hit by a truck. She's lost a lot of blood but the doctors are doing their best to save her."
The nurse rushes away as a devastated Karma falls to the floor. Tears were falling from his face.
The nurse returns with a pack of blood in a yellow plastic bag and rushes inside the operation room. Karma had somehow picked himself up and was sitting in the chairs outside the operation room. 30 minutes later the doctor comes out, there was a look of relief and calm on their face.
"Doctor, how is she doing?" Asks Karma.
"Oh she's going to be fine. The artificial blood we received today saved her."
"Artificial blood?"
"Yes. The Takebayashi company donated 100 bags of artificial blood to our hospital and we're lucky that we were able to use it because we didn't have anymore blood in her blood group."
"Can I see her, please doctor." Pleads Karma.
"She's not yet conscious but you can meet her."
Karma steps inside the room. It was silent and the only thing that he could hear was the monitor beeping. He sits on the edge of the bed and silently observes Manami. He takes her hand and carcasses it, kissing it.
"I'm really sorry Manami. I shouldn't have left you. I became selfish. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I should've thought about you."
Karma cries, his tears drop on Manami's face.
"I'll never ever leave you. I'm sorry for all the mean things I said to you."
In a week's time, Manami fully recovers and was ready to go home. She reaches home with a little sadness and disappointment. She opens the door and is immediately surprised by Karma and Rika.
"Oka-tan." Little Rika runs to her mother.
Manami gets down on her knees and gives Rika the warmest hug ever.
"I'm really sorry for leaving alone for so long, Rika chan. I promise I'll love you more." Says Manami while crying.
Karma also gets down to his knees and hugs Manami, Rika was squishing in between them.
"Oto-tan, let me go."
Karma let's go of Rika and she runs away to play with her toys.
"I'm really sorry Karma kun, I became too busy with my work. I- I don't deserve to...... " Manami couldn't speak through her tears.
"I'm sorry too, Manami. I should have understand your problem too. I became the selfish." Karma was crying as well.
Manami hugs Karma and he hugs her back. He releases Manami from the hug and plants a kiss on her lips.
"Eeeeewww.... Dat is gloss." Cringe Rika at the sight of her parents cooking.
The family breaks into laughter. Karma picks up his daughter and the three share a beautiful and warm hug together.
