The time had inevitably come. Hiccup had known he would have to face the glares and scorn of the villagers after his mess up (third one this week) eventually. he just wished he had gotten used to it by now, but alas it never got old, or new, or less painful.
As he limped through the main square of the village, carrying a message from Stoick (he had decided that it would just be easier to stop calling him dad) to Spitelout, he knew his luck couldn't couldn't get any worse. Snotlout was probably going to be there, and the last thing he needed was him. As he tried to get to Spitelout's home as fast as possible, he saw the stuck out foot a moment to late. as he fell his head hitting the ground hard for the second time in three days, he knew he probably had a concussion. Of course, nobody (especially Stoick) would care. In fact, if it was possible it would only earn him more scorn and hate. He was the only Viking who couldn't hit his head on a rock and walk of like nothing happened. Of course Viking brains are so small, a concussion probably couldn't even be possible for one. He looked up and saw one of the twin's faces. It was Tuffnut, of this he was reasonably sure, but even though their genders were different he sometimes had a hard time seeing the difference between them. As he got up and brushed himself off, he heard Tuffnut say something, but his ear started ringing and the headache came back in its glorious pain. he assumed it was something along the usual lines of Hey useless. Or the choicely Hey weakling. Now used these administrations he continued walking towards Spitelout's house.
If only he had heard what Tuffnut had really said.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The message was still clutched in his hand still slightly crumpled from his fall, despite his attempts to straighten it out. He hadn't looked at it for two reasons; one was that it was probably something boring about the amount of fishes they had gotten this week, and second because it was probably something else equally boring, but Hiccup's curiosity won out in the end. As he opened it the runes slowly came into focus and Hiccup stared in uncomprehending shock at the words written under him:
Spitelout,
After thinking about it, I have decided to take your advice. Snotlout's heir coronation ceremony will take place on Frigga's day within the next three months. He will be placed in Dragon Training with the other teens, except Hiccup.
Stoick
As Hiccup read the words twice more, the information still not being clear in his brain. Hiccup had known he wasn't fit to be the next chief of Berk, but he was only fifteen! Usually the official heir coronation ceremony didn't happen until the age of eighteen after three months of dragon traying and two years of chief training often times with more dragon training for the heir of the more northern tribes like Berk. Hiccup had always thought that he still had three years to prove his worth to his da-Stoick, but apparently not. With this knowledge he felt suddenly empty, not realizing how much comfort the luxury of time had given him. Now he was really going to be an outcast, as soon as everyone found about this. 'The first son of a chief who wasn't chief and was still alive'. Snotlout would become even more insufferable (if that was possible), and then Astrid. He had had a crush on Astrid for an unknowable amount of years, and Hiccup knew that she usually ignored him, but the fact that he used to be the heir had given him some comfort in the fact that maybe in the next three years he could have a chance with her, but now even that hope was crushed. Snotlout would probably marry Astrid, wait-no, not probably even if Astrid didn't want it, the villagers would force it in the hopes that she would indirectly take the reins of the village and spare the village the destruction that would inevitable come under Snotlout's leadership.
Hiccup realized throughout the realizations, he had stopped moving, and slowly resumed his journey to the heir of Berk's house. The revelation had made him numb to any pain he had had before. He knocked and as Spitelout came out he handed the message to him, and walked away without saying anything. After taking about twenty or so steps he heard Spitelout's shout of joy and the sound of a shutting door.
He had never felt so numb and aloof from what was happening around him, and then the hate come out. All the feeling he had bottled up in 15 years of pain and embarrassment came to the forefront of his mind. He was useless was he? Didn't follow instructions? He remembered the time the twins and Snotlout had set the forge to fire, and he had been the first to be there to save it, and without him the forge would've burned down, but instead of being praised for his quick thinking, he got blamed by the twins and Snotlout who claimed they saw Hiccup mess up and set the forge on fire himself. It was with that memory he decided he would take revenge on them first, as soon as he made the plans to do so. He would ignore and look away from Fishlegs just as Fishlegs had done to him, and Astrid. He didn't know what he would do about Astrid, but he knew about everyone else. And Stoick. He had his strong bull-headed son, he didn't need Hiccup anymore did he? It was with this thought he decided he didn't want to have any part of being with Stoick. He would stay by himself in the forest. he would only come out for the day, and to help out Gobber, the only person who somewhat noticed him. Satisfied with these thoughts he headed back to his house to gather some clothes, fish, and his dagger as their were dangerous things in that forest.
Author's Note: If you guys think that Hiccup is going to be Darkcup-he isn't. Not yet at least, (maybe later in the story after untold events) but even then only for a limited time. I've always thought that Hiccup was much to unaffected by what happened to him, and I'm trying to make this as psychologically realistic as possible. So no, I'm taking Hiccup's character from the movies and only making them more human, not changing him into a monster who stays like this through the whole book like some horrible fanfics. I'm sure you guys can guess what's gonna happen with Toothless and Hiccup now... Cya :D comment please!
