A/N. (KINDA IMPORTANT) OK, recently I've been reading a lot of published books and top fanfics, and I've realized in comparison my writing in the previous chapters hasn't showed my full writing abilities, and so this chapter took longer to write, but it's writing is better.
As Shade instinctually made miniscule adjustments to his wings and tailfins, he felt the cold air flow around his wings. The water that was raining all around him was turning into steam around his stomach, where his Fljótandi eldur (floating fire) was located. He summoned the liquid fire, and as his peripheral vision saw the purple glow of his plasma blast, he focused and aimed at one of the towers containing the rock-throwers. He heard the sound of his trademark screech as he fired his blast and watched in superior glee as the blast perfectly struck where he was aiming, as usual. He heard the predictable shout of "NIGHT FURY!", and as Shade circled around the smoldering remains of the tower, he decided to fly over the top of the village where the main fighting was going on. He flew over the tops of oblivious villagers who were either running, fighting, or ducking looking for him. Some of the villagers heard Shade's screech once again as he hit another tower, and pushed each other out of the way to duck, some of them tripping over stray weapons and debris.
Shade continued to fly around, and as he reached the main square of the village, Shade saw something that scared him. He saw the odd scrawny hatchling running away from a battle raged logahúð (Flame-skin), screaming all the while as he scrambled away from obstacles, seemingly graceful and clumsy at the same time. Shade didn't know why he was so distressed by the fear of the hatchling, but he knew he had to do something about it, he would analyze his feelings later.

Hiccup cursed again and again in his head screaming out loud as the Monstrous Nightmare crawled after him in all its glory, the flames licking its skin and not seeming to harm the Nightmare in any way. Why did I have to come out and help with the raids? Hiccup leaped over a half-broken sword dodging a villager who shouted at him to watch where he was going, paling when he saw his pursuer. The Nightmare species, when locked onto a target will always go for that target. Hiccup ran and as he headed Odin knows where, he realized the Nightmare had been hounding him towards the dead-end of the docks. Hiccup ran till the edge of the docks, knowing there was nothing and nobody who could or would save him. Hiccup turned around readying himself to fight at last. He wouldn't last anymore than two seconds, but hopefully his act of dying in battle would be enough for him to reach Valhalla. Who knows, maybe his father would actually manage a funeral. Hiccup ran towards the Nightmare screaming this time not in fear, but in some sort of battle cry, unfortunately not sounding as brave as he thought, but who cares? Just as Hiccup was about the reach the Nightmare, and his death, he hear the phantom screech of the nightfury. Hiccup briefly saw a glowing purple ball, which promptly exploded on the Nightmare's heated skin. The Nightmare screeched and roared upwards, in which Hiccup knew was an approximation of the Nightfury's location in the sky. The Nightmare then promptly flew away ignoring him, and he was left all alone on the docks. Hiccup looked around. He was still alive!
...
And then he fainted.

As Shade flew away from the docks and its thrashing freezing waters, he thought about exactly why he would do that for the hatchling. He remembered the two previous times when he had met the Hatchling, the first time:
Shade was starving, he had angered IT by stopping a few dragons from killing a hatchling, and in return IT had informed the dragons that none of them were to give him a substantial amount of food. The next raid, after a month of rations, he was starving beyond belief, his stomach seeming to be clawing at his insides, and he was so desperate for food that he sacrificed his own safety. He was flying around trying to find some amount of food that wasn't guarded by angry víkingur (Vikings), and eventually as he glided over the house of a chief where he smelled the beautiful smell of fish. He immediately scouted the location to make sure there were no víkingur, and in his desperate hunger, he didn't smell the familiar smell of the hatchling. He quickly found the fish, and though disappointed there were only two, he still looked up and thanked móðir dreki, the mother dragon. As he was about to leave, he smelled the hatchling, smelling so much like a dragon and also a víkingur that Shade was shocked at first. At first he considered to kill the hatchling, but he felt a subtle bond, seemingly to flow through his very blood. Shade was in awe, but he left before the hatchling could call help.
The second time was just as confusing:
Shade was looking over the village looking for a place where he could help the attack. He was so absorbed in his task, he didn't smell the smell of the Hatchling until he emerged from the forest behind him. It was only due to countless hours of practiced stillness Shade didn't jump in shock, and instead was as rigid as a board. He smelled the smell of the Hatchling and was once again struck by the familiarity of it. He smelled equal parts dragon and human, sadness and anger, pain and curiosity. Shade left again, before he could confuse himself anymore by this Hatchling.
Shade thought upon these thoughts, and didn't know what to think. He was a dragon who had undergone many tragedies and was used to squeezing his feelings underneath the huge weight of fear and duty, and so Shade switched the train of his thoughts. Shade knew that IT would be mad, and all dragons, including him, especially him would be punished. The raid had not gone well and they had barely had any food. In truth, Shade was impressed by the humans. The odds of 1:3 in raids the dragons were alarmingly losing members of the nest, another reason why Shade was put in charge of dragon training. As Shade neared closer and closer to the nest where IT resided, a thought forced its way past his wall of duty and fear:
The Hatchling smelled equal parts dragon and human, sadness and anger, pain and curiosity.
He smelled like him.

A/N: Thanks for reading, I hope you guys could see the difference in writing and I hope it made the story better. The bond between the two main characters will be explained more in detail later, but no Hiccup is NOT Toothless's younger brother or anything, and just to clear up any misunderstandings: Shade IS Toothless, not a relative. Once again I would love any comments about whether you would like magic or things like that in the story, and also any suggestions about places where Hiccup will after he leaves. Thanks again, cya :D
