"Password?"
Hiccup startled nearly shouting in surprise. Taking deep calming breaths to steady his furiously beating heart Hiccup started to turn around, but he felt the fingers on his shoulder tighten, nearly to the point of hurting.
"Password?"
The voice now was a low growl.
"Talon", Hiccup breathed out still trying to calm himself.
"Sorry about that, can't be too careful nowadays."
Finally being allowed to turn around, Hiccup saw his assailent. They were was completely clothed in black, nearly to the point of blending into the dark background. Hiccup could see skin only on the unclothed fingers and the edges around his eyes. The eyes were calculating, but not cold. They were a blue, not one of warm oceans and skys, but the color that originates from rare gems. Hiccup also noticed, with some alarm, the several bulges going in a diagonal down the their chest. Atleast twenty knives were hidden there, unoticable to most people before it would've been to late.
"Follow me"
And after a brief hesitation, Hiccup followed the retreating back of the Black Parrot. They weaved around dark stores, and avoided people as often as thieves did guards. The path the Black Parrot took Hiccup was so convoluted Hiccup knew he wouldn't be able to find his way back without the crows. The longer it took for them to reach their destination the more scared Hiccup became. By now, he would've probably ran off in fear, but in an effort to keep Toothless asleep he had inadvertently muffled his own emotions.
Just as Hiccup was about to listen to his paranoia, the guide held up a hand.
"Here it is, the auditions! Good luck", and without saying another word the Black Parrot left. Hiccup's destination was a disappointing sight. It was a nearly broken down building, the stone cracked and some places even had some young moss. The equally unremarkable door was closed, but Hiccup was sure that even he could kick it open.
Hiccup walked up the derelict door and knocked. The door seemed the have been used recently compared to the rest of the building. Hiccup stepped back and waited, still unsure of what he would find.
The door swung open, and the same person who had handed him the note that morning was there. Just as he was stepping through the door Hiccup felt Toothless blast completely through his mind.
"DONT GO THROUGH THE DOOR- THERE'S MAGI-"
But it was too late, before Hiccup could second guess himself he stepped through the doorway, completing the motion he had started. Hiccup started to urgently ask Toothless what was wrong and apologize at the same time, but then-it was just empty. The door closed behind Hiccup and he looked around. Where was he? He remembered coming here for-and then Hiccup was lost. He tried to remember why? He was Hiccup and he-
who was he?

I was in Hiccup's mind. I had never blasted through Hiccup's instinctual mental defenses so completely, and in doing so had transported most of my mental self inside of his mind. I was seething, he had left me and now got himself into a horrible position. I saw all of Hiccup's emotions, memories, and feelings from those memories get sucked into oblivion. the magic that had laced the door was easily detectable from a great distance for any dragon, but I had just been so exhausted I hadn't paid enough attention. I knew the magic could be reversed, but still had no idea who would've been powerful enough to do such draining magic. It was not dragon magic I knew.
I started to walk towards the two huge windows that showed Hiccup's view of the outside world, but just before I could, I felt a draining sensation from within me. NO! How powerful was this magic? I wasn't even really in the room, but even as I thought that thought it fell away. I scrabbled after it, but it was just as elusive as any fish in the ocean. I knew I couldn't beat this magic through conventional means, and so I had to outsmart it. Even as my memories drained away I had an idea. It was extremely risky magic, but if it went wrong, I would lose my memories anyway. I gathered as many memories I still had and closed them under the same wall that kept back the memories of my previous two-hundred years of life. Just as I prayed to the móðir dreki (mother dragon) to keep me and Hiccup safe, I fell into confusion.
I was a powerful, rare, and elusive dragon named Toothless, and I was-
I was-

Tuffnut had been looking for some raw fish to dump on his twin sister, Ruffnut, when he saw Astrid running towards the forest at a dead sprint. Tuffnut only got a short glance of her face, and was shocked and slightly satisfied to see the panic on it. At least he now knew that Astrid could feel an emotion-maybe she got bethrothed to Snotlout? Tuffnut knew nearly everyone except his sister, and surprisingly Fishlegs, thought he was a stupid kid doing stupid pranks. Nobody except those two knew that he only pulled pranks and annoyed people because it he was scared of death. Ever since his father had died of an illness years ago, he had carried a fear of death. Getting caught, pulling pranks, and getting shouted at though at times unpleasant it was all so alive. The exhiliration of running away from angry vikings, and the satisfaction of a well worked prank was all so far away from death. Tuffnut now knew that Astrid also had emotions like that (he was surprised), and against his better judgement he set off in pursuit.
(I'm not going to do this often, i just wanted to say, if you are confused on the paragraph above, the reason im writing this is because it'll be a while before Berk gets involved in the main plot, and I want to devolop the phychological profiles, personalities, and characters of the main characters.)
Tuffnut winded through the broken bushes and sticks that Astrid had gone through trying to keep as quiet as possible as to not get impaled by an angry Astrid, but as he unkowingly took a wrong turn he tumbled into a cove. It was beautiful. Tuffnut looked around in surprise, but froze when he heard the growl from behind him.
