"Nightfury."
The moment Hiccup said those words they felt unreal, even to him.
There was a Nightfury, in HIS cove.
Hiccup slowly moved closer and around. The Nightfury was closed around itself, silently slumbering. Hiccup pulled out his small knife, the first weapon he had made. He looked down at the sharp knife his hand trembling around it.
As he slowly got closer to the Nightfury Hiccup noticed many things at once; The Nightfury was sleeping, The Nightfury's stomach was horribly clawed, and the right tailfin of the Nightfury was gone, seemingly to be ripped off. Hiccup slowly reached his hand out to touch the tail.
The Nightfiry leaped up and jumped back, roaring in only a fraction of the glory of the previous night, but still terrifying. Hiccup leaped back yelling in some odd Hiccupy scream. The Nightfury looked at him as if recognizing him. Hiccup leaped up and held out his knife as the Nightfury proceded to growl. He dropped the knife, but the Nightfury didn't look satisfied. Hiccup carefully picked up the knife and kicked it over to the lake that was some mere feet away. The Nightfury sat up suddenly looking a lot less threatning with dilated pupils and no teeth. No teeth? Hiccup stood frozen watching the mighty dragon. Hiccup backed up, and as he was some ten meters away, the Nightfury who was surprisely toothless relaxed completely. Hiccup slowly sat down and observed the Nightfury. He saw the places where his previous drawings had gone wrong and he slowly opened his journal to make a new more accurate picture (look at chapter top).
Hiccup sat there for more than two hours while the Nightfury looked at him through shockingly intelligent eyes. Hiccup looked up after a while of silently looking around the cove after setting up his tent again. He saw Toothless, toothless? walk up the the small lake in the middle of the cove and push his claws into the water faster than the eye could see. Toothless groaned and fell backwards onto his back, his paws up into the air. He's hungry! Of course he was hungry! Starving even! Hiccup jumped up cursing his foolishness, at the same time not knowing why he was helping a dragon. Was it a debt? Or was it the connection Hiccup felt to the Nightfury. Hiccup didn't know, but he knew he had to feed the dragon. Hiccup went over to his pack and pulled out some of the jerky. He didn't know if Toothless would eat it, but it was better to try. Hiccup walked up to Toothless and held out the jerky. Toothless snatched it out of his hand faster than he could blink, and Hiccup yelped, jumping backwards. After Hiccup recovered from the shock of nearly having his hand bitten off, he said:
"Wow, I'm sorry about that. I promise I'll bring more food tomorrow. "
Saying this after Toothless's affirmitave growl, Hiccup sat down and opened his journal. Every day he would sit down and write the major events of what had happened to him. Hiccup picked up one of his charcoal pencils and began to write, and write, and write every day for the next month.
Hiccup's Journal:
Þorri (Month of 13 Jan-11 Feb): Today is the third day of having an acquantinceship with a dragon, yay! I feed Toothless like everyday, and the life in the village has gotten worse. I mostly stay in the forest anyway. And I didn't think it was possible, but Snotlout's ego has gotten even bigger! And the beatings have gotten worse. Astrid still ignores me, but yesterday Gobber taught me how to work with metal and cloth. Dragon training started up again and I still go, I really don't know why. Nobody has improved any except Astrid (of course). Anyways Toothless wants his fish so I'll write more tommorow.
Þorri (Month of 13 Jan-11 Feb): I have an amazing idea! Using the methods Gobber has taught me I will try to make Toothless a new tail. Not much else to say. Toothless still hasn't let me touch him in any way, but its better than the first day.

Gjø (Month of 12 Feb- 13 March): Well, its been a little more than a full moon cycle since I found Toothless. Nothings changed really. I get ignored scorned or beaten, but that's nothing new. Toothless almost lets me sit next to him, but still no touching. And the tail is the worst. There's just so many problems, I know I can do it, but there's just so many small tweaks and problems everywhere.
-_Break Line:_-
Hiccup nearly threw the hammer at the wall. I HATE THIS TAIL. The metal either was much too heavy the cloth too weak, the gears not working, the movements not following the other tailfin's instructions. Hiccup continued working throughout the night nevertheless because Hiccup had a feeling that today was the day that he would figure this out. It took till three in the morning and a month of constant work, but Hiccup finally held his finished product up. It looked amazing in the darkness of the forge, half covered by darkness. The only drawback was that it wasn't perfect. Physically it was, but Hiccup wasn't able to make a tailfin that worked...
Alone
Together the tailfin would work. Human and dragon would be together in the skies, mocking tradition and the gods themselves...if Toothless let him ride him. That was the problem, Toothless didn't even let him touch him, forget about riding him like a mount. Hiccup knew he would try his hardest nevertheless, just like he didn't give up on the artificial tail.
-_Break Line:_-
Hiccup trawled through the dark of the forest, finally arriving in the cove. He held up the tail for Toothless to see. Toothless was wide awake, he was a Nightfury, and he looked at the tail. Hiccup could almost see the gears in the no doubt intelligent mind working as it looked at the tail. Toothless's eyes widened and he jumped up and bounded towards Hiccup, but right before he reached Hiccup the dragon stopped and looked at Hiccup. Hiccup knew that now was the time, and he would try.
Slowly almost reverentially Hiccup stretched out his hand towards the dragon. The very air seemed supercharged with magic and wonder. Hiccup turned his head away, the forest quieted, and his hand met warm scales. Hiccup breathed in and as he looked into the eyes of the Nightfury he stilled. A presence, a powerful and foreign yet familiar feeling was just there. No location, the presence was everywhere, one with him, infinitly him, but infinitly not him. And then a torrent of feelings, memories and a identity poured into him. And slowly a voice spoke, deep yet slightly melodic, a voice that Hiccup knew that felt irrevocably Toothless.
"Hello"
He felt together with the dragon, no longer alone. Two souls in one body. Two identities merged into one. Hiccup lifted his arm and fell over backwards staring the dragon who seemed even more shocked than him. Hiccup knew the dragon was shocked. He could feel his own shock mingled with a seperate charge of the same feeling.
"Toothless?"
A/N: YOU MIGHT WANNA READ THIS. Yea, one day early stop bullying me. Here we are the eventual bonding of the famous pair! Their unique bond will be explained more in the future, and no not all dragon pairs have a connection like this. ^. a key btw is:
"hiohdih"-talking
hjdjjhsjh- Thinking
"hhjhsjh"- Think talking unique only with Toothless and Hiccup (for now, thats a secret)
The leaving should happen soon, maybe in the next chap. For sure in the next 3 chaps. I update every 1-2 days so in 3-6 days Hiccup will finally leave. Cya :D. Btw I hope you guys like the whole journal thing I used to speedrun time. I find that the bond was much to easy in the movies and too fast, same with the making of the tail. SO cya :D.
