"Alright, and it looks like we're going to be having a bake sale," I announce as I look around the classroom at the overwhelming number of people holding up their hand for a bake sale. I draw a quick table on the whiteboard and label the columns name and food. "Everyone, try and bring something. Yes, it can be store bought, I am also lazy and am hoping to get Chase to bake something so I don't have to," that gets a few laughs, "but if it is from a store then make sure it is nut-free. Like, really nut-free. Not produced in the same factory as things with nuts. If you're making something at home, then that's a little harder, so just don't use any obvious allergens. I'll post the date on the club calendar after I check the schedule for other clubs and field-trips and things."
I go back to where Nate is, already hearing people clamouring to sign up behind me. He gives me a small smile which I return as I sit on the table beside him. Abigail is still smirking a little, which I roll my eyes at. Even though I do have a crush on Nate.
"So, Chase and Jordan are going to be baking?" Nate says, looking quite pleased at this.
"Hopefully," I reply with a similar grin.
"We should make them wear 'kiss the chef' aprons."
I laugh at that. "They would never get anything done, though."
"Yeah, but if we got a picture then the advertising for the bake sale would be completely taken care of."
I press my lips together, trying not to smile too much at the idea. "That would be pretty great."
"I know. I'm full of great ideas."
I roll my eyes, though I'm still trying not to smile (I think I'm failing). "I'm sure. Now, to the task at hand: how are we going to get them to cooperate?"
He shrugs, as though this is no problem at all. "I'll just tell Jordan I promised you I'd help out, and force him to come along- though it shouldn't be much of a problem if I tell him Chase will be there, too."
I allow a small smirk to cross my face. "So, does that mean that you are promising me that you'll help out?"
He grins a little in return. "I guess I am."
I can't help but continue to look at him, still wearing a small smile. He doesn't make any move to look away either, and I only shift my gaze away when I hear the ruffling sound of a page being turned. I glance over and realize that Abigail and Daniella are still sitting maybe a metre away, with Abigail smirking and Daniella wearing a small smile as she flips through the book she's holding in her lap. I feel a bit of heat rise to my cheeks and don't glance at Nate again until I'm positive I'm not blushing anymore.
When lunch hour ends, Abigail and Daniella linger behind while I'm taking pictures of the whiteboard to record the sign up sheet for the bake sale. Nate left a minute or two ago, and I'm 99% sure that's what they're going to talk to me about. I finish taking pictures and turn to them. "Yes?"
"You have an enormous crush on Nate," Abigail informs me.
"Okay."
"Are you going to ask him out?"
"Nope. He's straight."
"How do you know that?"
"Because he told me." After kissing me. Twice. And before mentioning that he wanted me to kiss him back.
Abigail scoffs. "Levi, he looked surprised and disappointed when you told us you two weren't dating. I don't think he's straight."
I shrug. "That's what he told me. He wouldn't have told me that if he didn't have a reason for it. So unless he specifically tells me otherwise, that's what I'm going to believe."
