I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. I groaned and tried to get up to turn it off. The heavy arm over my waist was not allowing me to move. "Turn that thing off." Colton groaned beside me.
"Get you heavy arm off me and I will." I tell him back. He rolled away from me and to the other side of the bed. It's been two weeks since he lost his grandpa and two weeks of staying in my house. A few nights he has slept on the couch but most nights he sleeps in my bed.
My parents don't care since we have always shared a bed since we were little. It's not like we were doing anything besides sleeping and sometimes cuddling. I'd wake up in the middle of the night to Colton holding onto me tightly. He has been in a hard spot but with my parents, myself and football, it's been keeping him busy.
Today is our first game of the season. Coltons parents were driving back to surprise him at the game. I climbed out of bed and headed into my closet to get an outfit for today. I chose some blue jeans and a hoodie.
Once I had changed into my outfit, I walked back out to see Colton still asleep with Kona curled up beside of him. I threw my pillow at him to get him up. Once I was for sure he was awake, I headed downstairs with Kona following me. I made a cup of coffee and took it outside while I let Kona out to do her business.
This had sorta became our routine for the past two weeks and it's going to be weird when Colton and Kona go back to his house today. I'd always wake up first and hang with Kona while Colton took forever to get up and dressed. He definitely wasn't a morning person.
He finally got out of the shower and we headed to school. He had his football bag slung over his one shoulder, his backpack on his back and then my bag in his other hand. I don't know why it is that he insists on carrying my bag but he does.
After we put our bags in the locker rooms, we met back up out in the hallway. "We are having a pep rally after lunch." I remind Colton.
"I know Em." He says back softly.
"Okay, I just wanted to make sure that you remembered." I tell him in the same soft voice. Where he's been so distracted lately, I've tried to help him and make sure he doesn't forget anything for school.
"Thank you Em, really. You've helped me a lot but I'm okay now." He says to me and I nod. He puts his arm on my shoulder and pulls me into a hug.
"There's my two favorite captains!" I heard Jake yell and then I heard him slap Colton on the shoulder. I pulled back and stood beside Colton. "You two together yet?"
"No Jake. We are just friends." Colton says with a sigh.
"Okay, okay. I'm just messin with y'all. You guys ready for the pep rally?" He asks as we start to walk down the hall towards our first class.
"If you mean ready to get out of the afternoon classes, then yes." Colton answers.
"Emory, I heard that the cheerleaders are doing something big for us tonight, what is it?" Jake asks me. The cheerleaders all picked one of the football players to take their number. We would be wearing their numbers on our cheeks and their extra jersey. We talked to the football coach and he got us the jerseys. At half time we were all going to put the jerseys on over our uniform and do a cheer for the boys before giving them all hugs, handshakes or kisses and then going back to the sidelines.
