She made it.
Through hard work, a lot of unnecessary butt kissing and an incredible try out, June was Gryffindors new Seeker. Sat on the common room sofa in her brand new uniform, her hands smoothed around at the material, feeling uneasy and nervous for her first game. It wasn't a usual feeling she experienced but after proving how worthy she was for the position, it was time to deliver.
It was too early in the morning to be up, let alone be dressed in full game gear. Sat beside her was a folded letter. She decided to write back to the anonymous note after a week of pondering and slight convincing from someone the girls. She wasn't sure on her approach; friendly? Distant? Mysterious? Many options but after reading the original note over and over, she was would smile and felt a warmth and energy from it.
Sirius could feel his stomach curl over, waking him yet again for the 6th time that week. He was a nervous wreck since sending June the letter, regretting instantly. She didn't respond to it nor did she bring it up again. He hid his vulnerability well, many years of practice, but his physical state was taking the lash of it. He was irritable and distant from her, similar to before but not a choice he was open to. If anything, spending time with James made it a little worse.
Having left his bag down in the common room again, he descended from his bed to grab something to settle the stomach, a small stash he nicked from the hospital wing before summer. His bare feet were light on the stone steps, his body swaying a little from his sleepy state. With his foot an inch away from the common wooden floor, his eyes clocked the long chocolate hair draped over the red plusher couch, pushed up in a messy ponytail. He titled his head, noticing she was in her quidditch uniform.... at 6am on a Saturday.
His eyes grew as his head slowly dropped to his stomach. The curled feeling stopped. Merlins Beard...
Frustrated and annoyed at the conclusion at to his physical pains, he wanted to strop around, shout at June for ignoring the letter and ask why she didn't care for it but...
There, perched on the armchair, was a sealed letter. Uncertain but within a hunch, he slowly backed up the stairs and legged it to his room, sitting patient with his window ajar slightly and sat up in bed.
Minutes passed and Dixie was on his window sill. Due to his sound asleep friends, he laughed internally, gobsmacked that it actually happened.
Taking the letter, he quickly released Dixie back outside, watching at James shifted in his bed a tad, a small grunt but silence again after.
A,
Thank you for finding my letter; it was indeed intended to be burnt - a token to the universe as it were! I've burnt it now, not wanting to leave my wishes unfulfilled.
You shall live another day!Never in my life have I given it much thought but I've found in the last few weeks a nurturing feeling towards others. I don't think I have what it takes to be a healer but if I could be anyone, I'd want to be someone who helps save lives, in one form or another.
I have a friend who has joined my family. I don't see him as a brother what so ever but I have a really odd need to check on him all the time... he's a very interesting man.So yes, I want to help those who need it, in a round about way. Tell me about you? Who would you be?
J.A.P
His mouth fell open, a dryness encasing his tongue, cheeks and teeth, his eyes religiously scanning the letter over and over again. He stuffed her letter in his bedside draw, grabbing a jumper and darted out his bedroom once again. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, a small deja vu, he was relieved to see she was still there, her state half asleep and relaxed.
"It's 6am missy, why are you awake and dressed?" His voice was sweet and low as he hovered behind the couch, pulling a little hair from her cheek back. Looking up at him, his face upside down, her sleepy glazed eyes blinked several times at him along side of her content smile. He made note that they both seemed to enjoy having their hair brushed.
"First game nerves..." She bit down on her nail, now looking towards the fire. Jumping over the sofa, he sat beside her, lit the fire and turned to give full attention.
"You... Nervous? Woman, you dragged a monster truck tire around the pitch with me swinging bludgers at you full force and you didn't flinch ONCE!" His cackle echoed as he prodded at her hip, the pair laughing. Covering his mouth, she looked towards the stairs in hoping that they didn't wake anyone. He watched her worried but amused face. Those small freckles again...
A small hiccup escaped as she clocked his hands on her waist and hers pressed to his lips and cheek; together in such close proximity, she had never noticed the small green spec in his right eye. It made the grey colour pop. She flushed as her hands dropped to her lap, itching the corner of it as she glanced up the girls stairs. They were so much more interactive - Had Sirius not turned up to their house during the summer, she was sure they would be arguing and bickering as usual. With James being the usual bridge between them, they hadn't explored the possibility or understood where they stood with each other.... until that night he came home - it was a light switch towards conversation, time and stronger friendship building.
Seeing the charm she possessed, he had an urge to tell her that the anon letters were from him but his speculation was that it would make something as comfy as this into an awkward mess.
He cleared this throat and down as his watch. "Go get some breakfast. I'll get everyone else..." he rose but a hand gripped his own, a tug in his shoulder. She looked up at him a little longer, unable to get a real understanding of why it was now they began to interact more; it was her own doing to make sure her brother had his own friends besides his sister but did Sirius moving in with them make her realise that spending time with the troubled boy would lead to enjoying his company? Letting go of his hand, she nodded and went off towards the door.
The curl in his stomach arrived again.
"For fuck sake, I get it! I like the girl!" He huffed, pinching the bridge of his. Putting aside that he was his best friend, James was not to find out.
