I stepped into my mom and dad's room, directly across the hallway from mine, where my mom was folding laundry. My dad was shoveling snow out in the front yard on this chilly Sunday morning. That night I had been up all night with the boys, doing very questionable things for fun."Hi mom..." I greeted, sitting on the bed, now helping fold the laundry.
"Hi, have fun last night?" I smiled, thinking of our wacky antics of chasing each other around with hot glue guns.
"Yeah, I've been having fun with them."
"That's good. I'm happy you've finally made some good friends. I never asked, did you have a good New Years?" Another smile crept upon my face.
"Yes! We didn't end up staying for the party cause Brendon was there. Neither of us wanted to deal with him, so we just, drove somewhere and hung out. It was really fun."
"Brendon? Wasn't that the boy who took you to the snowball?" I nodded, "Oh, I liked him. He was nice."
"Mom, he tried to do, things with me in his car. He's also been a real jerk at school."
"Oh right, it's a shame. He was such a nice boy." She liked Brendon... but what about Gerard?
"Do you like Gerard?" She smiled.
"Yeah, I like him much better than Brendon. He reminds me of your father." I instantly dropped the skirt I was about to fold and looked to my mom. My father!? She never speaks of him... not to be confused with my dad of course... but my father!?
"My father?" I asked, wanting to know what she meant.
"Yeah, your father was a punk. He rode a motorcycle, wore leather jackets, and smoked about a dozen a day. It completely swept me of my feet," She smiled down at the clothes she was folding, "Y'know, he used to beat up people for me if they were mean. He was so sweet. But, when I was eighteen you know I got pregnant with you."
"Uhuh..." I said, wanting her to go on.
"I fought and fought with him to keep you. But he just, didn't want that. So he left me. Left us," She held a sad smile thinking back to it, "But then, I met your dad! And he's even better than your father could've ever been."
"Have you ever tried contacting my father?" I asked, completely invested in every word she spoke.
"No, he left us. You don't leave behind your family or the ones you love. He did, and never looked back."
"Do you ever wonder where he could be!?"
"Sometimes, but not a lot," She explained, "But uhm, with Gerard, I can tell he really likes you. From what I can tell he doesn't seem to ride or smoke."
Smoke... yeah... I've never actually seen Gerard smoke, yet all his clothes got that smokey smell... does he hide it from me? Or is it something else?
"Yeah, I've never seen him smoke. I don't think he could afford a motorcycle let alone learn how to ride it. As badass as he'd look." I giggled, thinking of it.
"He seems like a good guy. All your friends are. They remind me of my friends in high school," She rolled her eyes and smiled thinking back, "We were real idiots."
"Yeah, we kind of are too..." I said, thinking back to Christmas Eve. Rest In Peace Castle Grayskull...
"Hey..." My dad stepped into the room red faced from the cold.
"Oh you're all sweaty, go shower." My mom instructed.
But he stole a kiss from her before walking away. She giggled just like I do when Gerard kisses me. Wow... we really are similar...
