The good things: He hadn't been shoved off the astronomy tower yet. He hadn't passed out from hyperventalation either. That would be pretty, huh? The boy passes out into the arms of the girl... wouldn't that make such a masculine impression? He also didn't think he had quite come off as a complete dork yet, and he was actually having an intellegent conversation.

The bad things: He still didn't know the name of the girl. That was sort of pathetic in many ways... she was his destiny, but he still didn't have the faintest idea what her name was. For all he knew, whoever this girl was could already have a boyfriend. He also had failed in finding a place to regroup from finding the one who was to eventually be his true love. He realized that the girl probably didn't know his name either. It would be embarassing if she did... if she knew him but he didn't know her? That too would make a great impression... you know me, I'm in love with you, but I don't remember you at all...

Also under the catagory of bad things were the facts that Remus was still a werewolf, and still fighting with Sirius. The latter had no impact on the romantic front in the least. Remus assumed that the girl didn't care whether or not he was fighting with his ex best friend. It really had nothing to do with anything... aside from the fact that Sirius Black was the one best at romance of all of the people who Remus knew. Then again, of the marauders, it was James who was the most experienced in flirting. Remus made a mental note to ask his friend for some tips later on.

As far as Lycanthropy went... that was pretty much a bad thing no matter what the situation was. After all, if Remus wasn't a werewolf, he wouldn't be in mortal need to find true love, and if he didn't need to find true love, Remus wouldn't have gotten himself in the mess to begin with. It also would make things difficult in any later stages of relationship assuming that Remus even got that far. People of his race wern't generally very attractive. It would be hard to explain... that is if he actually ended up in the stage of an actual relationship, which was a pretty high hope at the moment.

So, Remus had regained himself for long enough to evaluate the situation. It seemed to be going pretty well. Still breathing as deeply as he could without being conspicuous, Remus turned his head to the sky, feeling his brain unfog a little bit more. So, he could think a little straighter when he wasn't actually looking at her. But, it still wasn't helping that much. Remus was sure that his heart was still beating faster than it had any other day of his life... he still couldn't think about anything other than her, but that was probably a good thing, seeing as it was the situation.

The girl said something... OK, as long as she kept picking the topics of conversation it would be fine. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's new tomarrow." To be honest, Remus knew exaclty how many minutes until the new moon, but he didn't want to sound like some freaky lunatic. Yes, lunatic would be the apropriate word. As long as the conversation stayed on the lunar cycle, Remus would look like a genius. That was good. So, maybe sometimes it helped to have an internal lunar clock. Then again, Remus would trade the clock in a split second to get himself out of this.

Planets... OK, c'mon, think Remus. It couldn't be that hard. He had read the magazine about astronomy practically every day over the summer. Now, which planet was it. Why did his fate have to depend on some planet up there. Either he'd be right or he'd be wrong, he had a one out of nine chance. Actually, it was a one out of eight chance... the planet in the sky couldn't be earth, he was standing on earth. Actually he wasn't, he was standing on the astronomy tower next to the girl who he needed to win over.

OK, so what were the planets... he probably couldn't even list them all in this state. There was mars, mercury, venus... that was it! Thank god for Dad locking up in his room two weeks ago with nothing but some books and magazines. The astronomy tonight had said that venus was particularly bright! "That one's venus." Remus told the girl, feeling a little better about himself now. "Named after the Roman goddess of love." He added, throwing in another factoid he remembered. If the conversation switched to roman mythology that was almost as good as the lunar cycle. Actually better, Remus actualy liked Roman Mythology, and knew a lot about it.

It was almost ironic that the goddess of love would make an appearance in Remus' first conversation with the girl who was to be his true love. Yet, it was also a sign. If venus was on his side, then this couldn't turn out badly. Not that Remus actually beleived in Roman Mythology. Sure, he knew a lot about it, but you'd never see him praying to Jupiter or anything. The alignments of the planets normally meant nothing to him. Yet, it couldn't be a bad sign...
