She didn't get what he was talking about. What was that supposed to mean. How much was Remus talking without meaning? Why did he need to be so bad at this! Why couldn't he manage to do this? This was what he needed more than anything, but Remus couldn't manage to hold himself in the conversation. He was practically hyperventalating. He was now apparently making no sense whatsoever. This was hopeless. He needed her, but he didn't even know her name. Yet, she knew his, and probably hated him for not not knowing hers. Why even try to keep this up?
"You said I was a hopeless romantic, right?" Remus asked the girl, slightly confused. So, maybe she didn't think he was hopeless. What would hopeless romantic mean other than someone who was hopeless at being romantic? "Well, whether or not you said it or not, I am hopeless at romance." Remus said, giving a little smile. If forgetting someone's name, accidentally running into them in the tower hopelessly in love, hyperventalating, and not making sense didn't make someone hopeless at romance, Remus wondered what exactly did. He hoped that he would never find out through personal experience.
"Well, that would make sense. After all, Venus was amazingly powerful, and there are a whole lot of Veelas. If the powers wern't watered down through the generation, it would be very hard for any non-veelas to get guys, and very hard for veelas to be left alone." Remus rambled slightly, loving the topic. He could go on for hours about the relations between various magical beasts and ancient gods. After all, dark creatures and mythology were his two areas of expertice. He spent so much time thinking about them both that it was nice to get it out. "You also raise a valid point with the name. It's quite possible that the word Veela comes from Venus." It was an interesting theory, and one which he had never heard before. It made perfect sense though. Veelas and Venus do sound very similar. Why could Remus theroize about the realtions between Venus and Veelas so perfectly well, yet whenever any other topic came up, he turned into a total wreck? It didn't make any sense.
"I feel sorry for practically everyone involved." Remus grinned. He had always loved the topic of Aphrodite, she was one of his favorite Godesses, the story behind her was so fascinating. "Hephestus because his wife kept cheating, all of the other guys because they couldn't help falling in love, all of the girls because their boyfriends were all dumping them to fall over Venus, and even Aphrodite herself because she had to be with someone who she hated." Remus didn't take a breath once in the sentence, though as soon as he finished it he went back to breathing in hyperdrive. Why did he have to get like this? Why couldn't he just keep his mind in the mythological world and not think of the gorgeous girl before him. It wasn't as if any form of romance was at all in the realm of possibility.
"Of course I've read it!" Remus laughed at the mention of one of the more interesting books. "More than once actually. Even if the author wasn't the best writer in the history of mankind, it was still fascinating because of the subject matter." Remus grinned, remembering the times he had read the book. "My mum actually uses it. She's a teacher for both adults and little kids on all sorts of subject matter. One of the things she teaches is a class about Mythology, and that book is the one she uses most often." He told the girl, still grinning. "I actually beleive that the ancient gods are real myself. They're far more beleivable than any of the monotheistic religons of today." Remus continued, perhaps rambling a bit. He was excited that the girl liked the same book he did, maybe it meant they had something in common. Why did he have to feel this way? Even in the state he was in now Remus could tell that this girl would be a good friend. If he didn't need to make her love him. If he hadn't forgotten her name.
"Yeah, it's pretty funny in a way." Remus cocked his head slightly, still smiling. Talking about the gods was fascinating. "I mean, I can practically imagine them all watching in Olympus and deciding that they wanted a certain side to win, and cheating a little to make sure they did." The gods seemed to be pretty entertaining people themselves, Remus thought, as he did so often. If only they could help him out now. "It's interesting. I wonder how much they pay attention to. Maybe one of them is even watching us now." Sure, it was impossible. The gods had never paid that much attention to Remus, even if he was one of the few modern people who still beleived in them.
