I was mindlessly scrolling through my Twitter feed when my phone buzzed, notifying me of a message from Donny, a dear friend and colleague.
Donny: Still awake?
Maymay: Yes. Why?
Donny: I just have to ask you something, can I call?
Not a moment after that my phone buzzed once again, indicating a call from him, seriously why did he even bother asking if he can call if he'll call anyway, without my reply at that.
"Hello, Dons, what's up?" I greeted him cheerfully, but my enthusiasm was rewarded only by his breathing across the line.
"Hello, Donny? Is everything okay?" I asked louder this time and only then did I hear him clear his throat to finally reply.
"Yeah, everything's great, I just have to ask you something hypothetical" he voiced out, I scrunched my face up, confused, he called in the middle of the night only to ask me something hypothetical, look who's weirder than I am.
"Okay?" apprehension, evident in my tone of voice.
"for legal purposes my question is just hypothetical, but once your contract ends, can I pursue you" Donny asked without catching his breath, so fast that it's a miracle that I even caught his words, again without waiting for my reply, he dropped the call. As soon as I digested his words, my face heated and my heart beat abnormally against my chest that I could physically feel the thumping as I lightly tap my throat. What the hell just happened.
My phone buzzed again, still by my ear so I dropped it, a message from Donny, lighting up the screen.
Donny: I'll get your hypothetical answer in person. I'll see you soon, May"
I just continued staring at my phone, utterly confused by my surroundings, when it hit me, was that a confession? and why does he get to have an answer in person? he only called me, he said it was hypothetical, what the hell is that? I raked through my hair, why is this happening to me?
Maymay: Donny, you are dead meat when I see you.
Donny: ᕙ(͡°‿ ͡°)ᕗ can't wait, sweet dreams, My Love, I'll surely dream of you.
Oh dear, I think I'll be swept up off my feet soon.
