Olivia was smiling like a fool as she made her way back to the house. It was late and the wind was getting chillier. Her pretty floral, knee length dress couldn't provide her much cover against the wind. But cold didn't matter.
Her boyfriend of 3 years had finally proposed to her on a romantic dinner. It would be a lie if she said she didn't see it coming when he asked her for dinner at "Crown". It was one of the fancy restaurant of the town, "DelBer". It was not everyday you go to the Crown.
Olivia and Danny had met in college. They graduated together and found jobs around the town. They hoped to start a life of their own in the town where they could be close to both their families.
As soon as they graduated college, Olivia was excited to get married. She knew that Danny was the best man she could ever ask for. He was kind, smart and loving. Danny was also very good looking, standing at a height of 6 foot tall with a fine build. But Danny never popped the question.... until today.
As she entered the warmth of her house, she heard the ever nick picking of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Dunk was the inspiration of her desire for a happily married life. Her parents would always pick at each other but god knows, they could never stay separate for a day.
"Where were you, young lady?", Mrs. Dunk's attention shifted towards Olivia. "Do you know what time it is? It's gonna be midnight soon," her mother always exaggerated about the hours. "I know you are old and have your own job, but as long as you stay under my roof, there'll be no exception." Olivia sighed. Over the years she learnt that mothers never change.
"Mom, Danny proposed." said Olivia. Mrs. Dunk screamed at the news.
"The hell, woman. Its late night," said Mr. Dunk.
Mr and Mrs. Dunk had only Olivia. Their every aspirations were upon her, including her mother's wish to see Olivia get married to a good man. They loved Danny like their own son. They couldn't have found a better match for their lovely Livy.
"Oh Livy, we are so glad to hear the news." Indeed it was a happy day for the Dunks.
With wedding came the burden of wedding preparations. The following days saw Olivia and Mrs. Dunk getting busy with planning. The wedding was decided at the end of the month. It was early to get things together but the couple couldn't be more eager to start the new chapter.
Both Olivia and Danny had decided that they wanted their wedding to be a small affair with their family. This would not only save them their time and money, but also the exhaustion of preparations.
It was decided that she would get married at her Granny's town called "Old Creek." It was rural and quiet place, perfect to hold cozy weddings. This would not only give her the opportunity to meet her grandparents but also to include them in her weddings. The idea was perfect!
But her father was against this idea. Not even her mother knew why. Her father never took her or her mom to Old Creek. He had said that he came for good and never planned to return. She had wondered what could be so bad about that town. It seemed like a beautiful rural area from her grandparent's stories.
It took some days for Mrs. Dunk to convince her husband. "She is our only child and she is gonna go apart from us soon. Don't be adamant. What's wrong with getting married at your place?" She pushed her husband to give up with his stubbornness. "You either tell me your reason or she is getting married without your presence." Mrs. Dunk gave an ultimatum.
Mr. Dunk sighed. How could he explain all the madness that was stored in that town to his wife. She would never get it. But seeing Olivia happy was important too. So he decided on what he thought would never happen again - Old Creek.
