Olivia ran through the forest. It was dark and she bumped on fallen logs. The low hanging twigs scratched her face, the rough stones on ground hurt her feet. She had been on the run for few hours, yet the forest never seemed to end.
She stopped for a bit to catch up on her breath and to look for signs of living. She leaned against a tree as her legs needed to rest.
No one seemed to be following her. She guessed no one had figured out yet that she was missing.
Also, there wasn't any sight of settlements. She wondered, if the Old Creek she knew was all of it, because for the time she had been running, and if she was in Old Creek as Rei had said, this town must be larger than what humans knew.
Olivia could see the dawn lightening up the surrounding, it was going to be morning soon. She resumed the run, hoping to find her house anytime soon.
After an hour or more of running, she finally saw fields and then houses. That must it, she thought. Finally! Her feet sprang with more energy at the possibility of meeting her family soon.
But she could hear someone at her tail. She turned around and could see four large wolves coming after her. She ran hard, the adrenaline of fear and hope of reaching home pushed her.
She was at the edge of forest, when a wolf jumped before her. She fell on her back facing the dark wolf. And right before her eyes, the wolf transformed into a human. A naked man with dark eyes.
Olivia was deeply disturbed by the sight of the unwanted pervertness and the fear of the wolf-human. She looked around to only find Rei. Other wolves couldn't be seen anywhere.
"You shouldn't go to the town." Rei spoke unaware of the uncomfortableness he was causing.
"It is neither safe for your family nor for you. I suggest you come back with me. It's for the best." He continued.
Olivia wondered if Rei was either a moron human or evil wolf, because she lived among humans and not with wolves, and had no intention of going back. Especially not after all the effort she had put in her escape.
"Let me go. I want to go back to my family." Olivia, for one last time, requested politely. She was going to the town by hook or crook. But she thought it better to not alert Rei by being reckless.
Surprisingly, Rei allowed her. He knew about the reality that would hurt Olivia.
"I will be waiting here."Olivia knew then, that Rei was the foolish one. She had no intention of ever coming back. But, she would never tell.
She made her way to the town with strange feelings in her gut. She reached the town where humans lived, but it looked different than it did before. Every street looked empty, shops were closed, no sight of humans working on field.
She walked the deserted street to her grandparents house. She saw her father, and ran up to him.
Mr. Dunk looked shocked. Indeed, it was a matter of shock, even for Olivia.
Olivia went up to him for hug, but it was a cold one, with no reciprocation from her father. She looked up to him and cried.
"You need to go back, Livy." said Mr. Dunk.
"No.. I don't want to. What are you saying, Dad? Why are sending me back?" Olivia couldn't believe her ears. She thought her parents would be overjoyed to find her.
"Don't you already know it by now, Livy? Why do you think the streets are empty? It's not just about you. The lives of whole town is at stake here." Mr. Dunk said with a straight face.
"But I am your daughter, father. Save me. Let me meet mom. She would be happy to see me." Olivia cried.
"Your mother and others have left for DelBer. I am going too now. You should go back. I pity you, my child. But it must have been your fate. I beg you, Livy, save us."
Olivia could not believe what her father had said. How could he decide to put the burden of all on her shoulders and walk away? What about her then? What about his daughter's feelings? She was tired and scared. All she wanted was her family and home.
Olivia felt deserted. No one to help her. No one to care for her. Her heart broke at her own pitifulness. With wet eyes and broken heart, she turned around and walked towards the forest.
