"I'm looking for Hana Watanabe, class 2." The voice said. The team's attention was grabbed as they became increasingly more confused.
"Kaito Kobayashi?" Hana remarked I'm confusion. 'What the hell is he doing here? We don't have any connection or anything... and shouldn't he be at home by now? The school day has ended, what's his deal?'Kobayashi had quite the 'better than you' vibe to him, feeling he was superior to most, despite his only standing out quality being his brain. He was average looking, and wasn't too into sports. With the rude wave of a hand, he beckoned Hana over to the side of gym, near the entrance where he stood.
"Long time no see Hana, where have you been? We really should've hung out, especially after the award ceremony." He said, his head held high with his nose stuck in the air.
'Umm... ok snooty, no need to build your own throne there.' Hana gave him a disapproving look, crossing her arms and sighing.
"No? We shouldn't have? Why would we ever hang out? I never even talk to you Kobayashi. I didn't even know your name until you beat me. Quite frankly, there is more reasons for me to not hang out with you than otherwise." Kobayashi almost looked surprised, as if he expected Hana to fall at his feet for a reason she was completely null to.
"Well... why wouldn't you? We're the smart people. Granted, right now I'm higher rank than you, but your as far behind that you've been completely blown out the water. We're birds of a feather one would say." He smirked, nodding his head.
This guy is seriously dug deep in his own fantasy. Does he realise how much douche he sounds like? Why of all people did he have to approach me... I'm getting a migraine just by the thought of it.' Hana growled to herself and finally replied,
"Listen Kobayashi, I don't know what could have led you to the thought that we are 'friends' or even acquaintances for that matter. I don't want to be friends with you, I don't want to be around you, and we are more different than anyone could ever believe. If you'll excuse me, I have a team to manage, and tv to watch. So go take your snobby little shit-nose face, go home, and don't ever think that we are friends. Because we're not. I don't have loads of friends, but the ones I have are chosen carefully, and wisely, and you are no where near the list of people I would ever consider surrounding myself with. Got it?" She demanded, not taking any shit from the boy.
He looked dumbfounded at her roll of insults. Hana had marched away at that point, attempting to get back to the team, when he shook out of his shock and smiled again.
"Oh Hana, how very charming of you," he stated. 'HOW THE FUCK WAS CHARMING? I JUST CALLED HIM A SHIT NOSED BRAT.' Hana thought.
"No need to be so abrasive Hana, like it or not, we're the smart ones. And that's why... I've decided to take you on a date!" He marvelled, his hands on his hips. Finally, Ushijima's head perked up at his words. The team had been spectating this whole ordeal, and were as lost as Hana was, but at the development of this conversation, things began to heat up.
"A... date? A DATE?" Hana yelled. "Ok, if you really think you can come at me with that crap, then you must not be all that smart shitnose. I would frankly rather immerse myself in a bath of boiling water than go within 5 feet of a date with you." The boy just chuckled and walked forward to face her once more, taking hold of her arm.
Hana sneered at the contact.
"Dude, what is your deal?-" she began to say, as she felt another figure from behind her. Ushijima put a hand on her should and gently pulled her backwards."Hana, we need to finish cleaning up. It's your duty as manager to fulfil that role with the rest of team. I'm sorry Kobayashi-san, but Hana's not available right now, and technically we're still at practise, so I'll have to ask you to leave." He said, glaring at him slightly.
The height different was laughable, as Kobayashi gave him a dirty look before huffing off, without another word. Ushijima let go of Hana, and she turned to him.
"Damn... I don't think I've talked to something that arrogant in a while. I wonder why he's coming to me of all people." She thought out loud.
"I don't know, but the things he was saying weren't true at all, you two aren't similar at all." He replied, half annoyed look on his face. Hana noticed this, and after a second, she burst out laughing.
"Pffft, ha, yeah, you're right about that, thanks Toshi, you really pulled through for me there. If anything, he was persistent as hell." She smiled up at him, and he did the same, until there was a call from across the room.
"Yoohoo! Come on you two, stop flirting already and help us!" Tendo yelled, Hana's face retorting, as she get pissed at the comment.
"SHUP UP TENDO BEFORE I BEAT YOUR ASS. STOP BEING SUCH A BITCH.""I am nothing BUT a bad bitch. There's not much to do about that." He shouted back, dodging a flying ball that Hana had hurled at him. Ushijima smirked slightly at Hana's usual self, the only thing making her lose her cool being Ushijima himself.
The team got back to cleaning, and finish the remainder in time enough. Just as everyone was about to leave, the coach rushed into the gym and yelled to a halt.
"Is everyone still here? Good. I've set up a last minute practise match for you. I think it would be a good sense of preparation before the upcoming Aoba Josai match, especially since we now have confirmed that Ushijima will be available. It's in two days, against Tsubakihara Academy, and it'll be held here. I want to see full effort as always leading up to the match. That'll be all. Get home safe." He finally grumbled.
Ushijima made a b-line for Hana before she could leave.
"You help coach set up matches don't you? Did you know this was coming?" He asked. Hana faced him and shoved her hands into the deep pockets of the team jacket."Nope. And I always have a record of all the matches that have been set. It must have literally only been set today while practise was going on. You've played them before though, haven't you?" He nodded, and they began walking side by side.
"Yes, it was some time last year. They were a good team, but of course we beat them." He said, full of confidence for his team. Hana laughed, and as he said goodbye to walk to the dorms, Hana grabbed the back of his jacket.
"Hey... I just wanted you to know, I really am proud of you for the work you put in for the test. You worked really hard, and it payed off so... wanna come over? We can hang at my place for a bit, as... I guess a celebration?" She mumbled, obviously embarrassed.
Ushijima was surprised for a second, with a brow slightly raised, but then smiled at her warmly.
"Thank you Hana, I think that's a good idea." He replied, finding her bashfulness cute. Hana smiled to herself, and they both started walking to her house for a well deserved reward.

A/N: did I choose Tsubakihara Academy because they kinda irrelevant and I don't have to write about them and can focus on the actual story around the game? Yes, yes I did. Also frikin Kaito is a snotty nosed brat.
