Hailey's POV

I sighed, the autumn leaves blowing peacefully around me. I relaxed, leaning back against the tree trunk. This is nice, I thought to myself. My eyes fluttered shut. Today had been a rough day. Now all I wanted to do was unload my stress for the chance that tomorrow would be better.

A leaf fell on my face, and I opened my eyes to brush it off. I jumped back, hitting my head on the rough bark. "Ow," I rubbed the back of my head. I had not been expecting a small girl to be hanging from a tree branch, staring at me intently with her grayish-blue eyes. She giggled, apparently amused by my pain. "What do you want?" I asked her, just wanting to get back to my napping. She swung down, short blonde hair whipping around.

"Well," she started, falling into a criss-cross position to become eye level with me. "I noticed that you seemed a little out of it today, and I wanted to help you!" I raised an eyebrow.

"But I'm a stranger, you don't know what's going on in my life," I said, hoping to chase her away. She seemed young enough to fall for the stranger danger thing.

Apparently not.

She tilted her head, eyes wide. She stared at me for about a minute before speaking.

"You're in love with someone," she deadpanned, acting as if it were as plain as the weather. I was taken aback; how could this kid know that? I hadn't told anyone. The corners of her lips perked up. "It seems I'm correct. Oh, and he's cute, too," she giggled again. "You've got it bad."

I felt my face start to heat up. "G-go away already, I have enough to worry about without some random 10-year-old coming up and knowing that I like Ja- I mean, uh..." I trailed off and buried my face in my hands. Gosh, this is so embarrassing. But hey, she's a stranger, I'm never going to see her again. She was silent a moment before digging into a messenger bag I hadn't noticed before. She pulled out a small glass bottle filled with a clear liquid. But the more I stared at it, the more it seemed to swirl and change colors. She held it out to me, but I was hesitant. "What is that?" I asked, still somewhat mesmerized. She set it down in front of me and went back to rummaging through her bag. She pulled out a leather-encased notebook and key. She unlocked it and it crinkled open, revealing pages filled with neat handwriting and some old-looking drawings. She flipped through the notebook, seeming to be familiar with the yellowed pages.

"That's a small concoction I made. It's hard to explain what it's for, but I understand it well enough," she didn't look up from her searching. "Aha! Here it is; The Dream Potion," she glanced at me for a moment before adding, "Don't judge me, I can never think of any good names." I stifled a smile.

"I'll tell you what to do with it. If you decide to take it," she looked at me expectantly. I contemplated for a moment. It didn't seem like it would do anything bad, and it was called 'The Dream Potion', so I assumed it would make me sleep or something.

And I was really tired.

"Fine, but if it does anything bad, it'll be over your head," I agreed cautiously. She smiled, a genuine smile and not a smirk. I took the bottle and put it in a small bag I had with me. She glanced back down at the book and told me what to do with it. I took careful note so I didn't mess anything up.

"And then, you should wake up," she finalized. I nodded, then stopped. "Should?" She laughed it off, "Oh, sorry, slip of the tongue. But yeah, if you do the steps wrong, then you might not wake up when you're supposed to." She glanced over her shoulder and muttered something under her breath. "What was that?" I asked, getting more and more suspicious of her. She looked back at me, then stood up and brushed herself off.
