Third person POV
Rain. Cold. Dark. All of these could describe the city that night. Cars zoomed past, drivers eager to get to the safety of their homes. Stores and restaurants were closing, lights were turning off in the apartments as people settled down to sleep. It was an ordinary night for most, but for some it was a night of secrecy and adrenaline.
High-heeled boots clacked against the pavement, quick but controlled. Rain pattered over her black hood, her hands tucked neatly into her pockets. The coat came down to her thighs, with straps fastening the front together. Her hair tumbled down from the hood, framing her face and adding a pop of color to the overall darkness of her outfit.
She slowed down, glancing around and seeing no one. She turned abruptly into an alleyway, her hands starting to shake from adrenaline. She reached the place she needed to be, and stopped. Walls faced off in two directions, making a long tunnel-like sort of atmosphere. She pulled her hood off her head, as the rain couldn't get her here. She untucked her hair, letting it fall against her back. Nothing seemed out of the blue about this alley. But for some reason, she felt shivers go up her spine. She whipped her head around, eyes wide.
"Why hello, Princess," a man smirked. He was leaning against the wall, almost completely invisible. He too was wearing all black, and he looked like the typical criminal you would see in the back alley. He pushed off the wall and began to walk slowly towards the woman. He held his arms out, "Did you miss me?"
She covered her mouth in surprise and ran to him. "I thought you were sentenced to a lifetime in jail! How'd you escape?!"
He chuckled and cradled her head, rubbing her back. "Well, let's just say that I couldn't bear to be apart from you any longer. And, turns out, if you have a friend that knows pretty much everything about jail systems, then you can get out pretty easily." He thought back to his recent escape. The whole state would be after him. He wouldn't be able to hide. He wouldn't be able to be with Hailey. He'd be taken back and killed.
"Jake," she looked up at him, expression completely serious. "They're going to hunt you down. You're going to go back there, and this time you won't come back," Her voice cracked, and he could tell she was on the brink of tears. He cupped her cheek and looked her straight in the eye. "Hey, I promise I won't leave you again. We'll make it work. Somehow."
She wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his shoulder, wanting to hold onto him forever. He hugged her tightly. Oh, how he missed her. She was all he thought about when he was in jail.
They stayed like that for a while, then Hailey took a shuddering breath and pulled away. Her arms fell down to hold his hands. "Come on, let's go somewhere safe. We can't be out in the open like this," she stated. She was right, it would be best to hide him as long as possible. He nodded silently, and they left the alley, reunited at last.
A/N: Short but I like it (also idk what Jake would've been in jail for, go figure)
