Hailey's POV
One more class. Then I was done for the day and I could go home. I quickly walked to my locker to get my books for the next class, History.
I shut my locker and glanced to my left. I jumped in surprise and dropped my books. I had not been expecting Jake to be there, leaning against the wall.
"AH, um, h-hi Jake, I didn't see you there," I stuttered, tucking a lock of hair behind my ear. I glanced down at the books on the ground and swiftly knelt down to pick them up. "Gah, I'm such a mess today," I muttered.
"Here, let me help. I was the one who made you drop your books after all," Jake said, kneeling down as well. I stopped picking up the books and stared at Jake. He stacked the books up, his hair falling in front of his eyes. My gaze was fixed on him, I couldn't look away. Damn, was he handsome.
He hefted the stack up and finally made eye contact with me. It didn't seem to register to me that I was still staring at him.
"Um, Hailey? You okay there?" he waved a hand in front of my face, and I snapped out of my trance. I realized how dorky I must have looked. I felt my face heat up. "Oh, uh, y-yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for helping me," I took the books from him and hugged them to my chest. He laughed and took a step back, and I somehow melted even more. Heck, what is wrong with me?
"Well, I gotta go to my class now. Bye, Hailey!" he ran backwards down the hall, waving bye as he went.
I lifted my arm to wave back, but he had already disappeared in the crowd. I let out a breath, my cheeks still pink.
I heard giggling behind me and immediately knew I was in for it.
"Alright, now what," I demanded, whirling around to face the three snickering girls behind me. The oldest one had long, strawberry blonde hair, with bangs and two curls in the front. She wore a light blue and white outfit that went with the soft look.
The other two girls were the same age, though one was about 10 times more mature than the other. She had shoulder-length dark hair, and she was sporting a pink long-sleeved shirt with light blue overalls on top.
The third (and most immature one) had short blonde hair, and wore a navy blue sweater along with black leggings and shorts.
I shook my head and walked past them, going towards my History class. They followed, like puppies following their mother.
"Sooooo, what happened?" the dark-haired one asked, a smirk on her lips. I rolled my eyes. These three girls always pestered me. The strawberry-blonde and blonde one even even wrote their names on my arm during class once. It took a week for the ink to wash off.
I tried to ignore them, but then they started talking. And boy, when they started talking, they did not stop.
"When do you think they're finally gonna confess?"
"By the looks of it, not for a long time. The dorks are too oblivious to pick up the hints."
"Well, if he's not gonna make a move, then I'm taking her for my own."
"KES!"
"What? She's hot."
This was another thing they did. They acted as if they knew every little detail of my life, and sometimes the things they knew scared me. Like how they knew I had a crush on Jake, which I never told anyone about. They also knew about the little incident in the library, which I thought was only between me and Jake.
I finally arrived at my class, but unfortunately it was their class as well. I went to the back of the class, and they surrounded me on all sides; Kes sitting on my right, J (the blonde one) on my left, and Zaara (the black-haired one) behind me.
The bell rang, and Mr. Brooks stood up in front of the class.
"Okay, class, today we're continuing our lesson from yesterday and learning about the three branches of government," he stated before launching into the lesson.
I jotted down notes, occasionally looking up at the overhead projector. I focused on the lesson at hand, trying to ignore the whispers from the three girls.
"Kes! Stop smelling her hair!"
"I can't help it. It smells so nice. And it's really soft and silky."
I felt a hand start toying with my hair. I finally snapped.
"Will you guys leave me alone?! Haven't you heard of personal space!?" I whisper-yelled. Kes had a look of surprise on her face, and J silently giggled. Zaara had her eyebrows raised and was drinking something steaming from a thermos. I turned back around and continued writing notes.
It wasn't long before one of them started pestering me again. "Yo Hailey," J started, leaning closer to me. "Have you ever kissed someone before?"
Why were these girls so interested in my love life? "No," I responded, hoping she would go away. Instead it just made her more intrigued.
"OoOooOoOOoH, saving it for a special someone, ay?" she smirked, wiggling her eyebrows. "Maybe a certain peach-haired boy?"
"Ms. FrenchFry," Mr. Brooks boomed in his stern voice. J immediately jumped back in her seat, eyes wide and attentive.
"Yes, Mr. Brooks?" she responded, acting completely innocent.
"Would you like to answer the question on the board?" he asked.
Her attention averted to the board and she stared at it a couple seconds. "Uh, can I have a sec to think about it?" she answered awkwardly.
I rolled my eyes. After that, they didn't disturb me for the rest of the class.

The bell rang, and I rushed out of the classroom to my locker. Finally, the day was over.
I looked over my shoulder, and grinned when I didn't see my three pesterers. I turned around and smacked straight into Jake.
"OH, uh, sorry," I stumbled, quickly walking past him. He grabbed my hand, making me stop.
"Wait! Uh, Hailey, there's actually something I wanted to ask you..." he trailed off. I glanced back at our entwined fingers. This wasn't like the library. This time he knew he was holding my hand.
I took a breath and put a placid expression on my face, trying to hide the blush. "Sure, Jake. What is it?"
He looked around the hall then back at me. "I'll tell you, but not here. Maybe... at the rooftop tomorrow? After school?"
The butterflies flew freely through my stomach, and I tried to keep my composure. "Sure, I-I'll see you there tomorrow."
He flashed his award-winning smile and released my hand, but I was reluctant to let go. "Bye, Hailey. See you tomorrow," he said softly, walking back down the hall.
I looked down at my hand and finally let the blush show. But before I could walk another step, you can probably guess what I heard behind me.
"I knew it!"
"Awwww, that was adorable!"
"Hailey, how'd you get such a cute guy to start simping over you?!"
I groaned, tossing my head to face the ceiling. "Oh, shut up!"
A/N: Y'all probably don't recognize the Jailey stans in the story (except for J, because I already used her in a oneshot before) it's me and my friends Zaara and Keserie (I tried keeping it a surprise, but I failed miserably)
