"What do you have for me", I asked, walking into the precinct.
"Murder", he said. "Great", I said.
I went to check out the crime scene. I'm a detective, and I love investigating. Weirdly enough, I enjoy it when the crime scene is messy and bloody, but I was not prepared for this. I walked into the old-timey, dim-lighted building. I went to the apartment.
"Oh my God", I said.
Crime techs were at the scene. "Yeah, I know", one of them said. "It's horrifying", I said.
"Come on", he said, "You love bloody crime scenes. It makes me think you need a psych evaluation".
"I know", I said, "But I've never seen anything this horrible".
I'll tell you why.
Blood was splattered on the floor and all over the walls. The apartment had been drenched in blood. There was a gun on the ground, covered in blood, there were several knives of different sizes on the floor, covered in blood. There were a heart and some other organs, lying on the floor. There was a cold, decapitated body on the floor. There was dry blood all over it. There were fingernails on the floor that had been ripped from the corpse's hands. I was mortified. The skin on the body was rotting, slowly peeling off. But the real disgrace was this. Not too far away from the body, was the head. The eyeballs
had been scooped out and squished on the floor. Blood was all over the head. Blood peered from the hole where eyeballs once lied. The hair from the head had been shaved and all the hair was on the floor. The scalp had been cut through, and rotten bran was on the ground. The mouth was wide open, bleeding, and all the teeth had been cut out with a knife and were on the ground next to the cut-up's mouth. The worst part is that a swarm of flies hovered over this man's face. I have never looked at a crime scene in the same way. Never have I gone home and been disturbed by what I had seen, but I did this time. I couldn't sleep that night. Not after this. Not after this.
