Brian Cage

"Are you serious?" Veronica asked me as we sat on my bathroom floor.

I looked at the test that was in my hand and nodded wiping a tear from my eye. 

"You guys have been trying for so long," Veronica said smiling.

"I know," I said with a chuckle. "I just can't wait to tell him."

Veronica gave me a hug as she chuckled with excitement. 

"When are you going to tell him?" She asked after releasing me from the hug.

"Tonight," I said looking up at her. "Since we're watching Olivia tonight, I figured it would be a good time to tell him because he always talks about how he can't wait till we have our own little girl to put to bed."

Veronica chuckled because she knew that was true. Brian and I always sang Olivia to sleep and Brian was really excited to be able to do the same with our own little girl.

"I'm so happy for you guys," Veronica said giving me another hug before getting up off the floor.

I got up with her and we headed out into the living room. Veronica headed back to the house while I stayed in the barn that Matt was nice enough to convert into a small apartment for Brian and I to stay in so we could help Veronica.

I walked over and put the test behind one of the couch cushions so that Brain wouldn't find it when he got back from the gym. 

Later...

Brain and I were sitting on both sides of Olivia's bed as we sang her "Welcome to Wonderland" which she requested every night that we were watching her. She smiled and closed her eyes as I kissed her forehead. Brian brought the blanket up and tucked her in before handing her her stuffed rabbit that we got her.

Brian and I walked out of the room, turning the light off as we went. I closed the door slightly before walking over and sitting on the couch. Brain grabbed a beer from the fridge before walking over and joining me. He sat down and put his arm around me as I cuddled up to him, resting my head against his shoulder.

"I love that little girl so much," Brain said taking a swig from his beer before setting it on the coffee table.

"I know you do," I said sighing. "I love her, too."

Brain nodded and kissed the top of my head before sighing.

"What's wrong?" I asked picking my head up and looking at him.

"It's nothing, Kennedy," Brain said shaking his head and looking at me.

I could see the sadness in his eyes.

"Babe, I'm your wife," I said smiling at him. "You can talk to me."

He sighed again before putting his hand on my cheek and stroking it with his thumb.

"I just really can't wait until we can have a child of our own," He said.  "I can only imagine how upsetting it is to you as well that we haven't had any success."

"I know, Brian," I said before giving him a kiss.

He kissed me back and I smiled a bit before pulling away.

"I guess it's a good thing that you only have to wait about 8 more months," I said with a small chuckle.

He looked at me confused. I smiled wider and turned away from him, grabbing the test from behind the cushion. I showed it to him with tears coming to my eyes. He took the test from me and his eyes grew wide when he saw the 2 lines on it.

"Are you serious?" He asked looking up at me.

I could see the tears forming in his eyes as well. I nodded as tears ran down my face. He pulled me into a tight hug and I heard a small sob escape his lips. I pulled away from the hug and kissed him happily. He kissed me back before pulling away and kissing my stomach.

"I'm gonna be a dad," He said wiping his eyes.

"And you're going to be an amazing one at that," I replied wiping my own tears.

"I love you, Kennedy," Brain said kissing me again.

I kissed him back happily before pulling away.

"And I love you," I said.

We shared another kiss before cuddling back up on the couch, Brian's hand resting gentle on my stomach. I sighed happily as we put on a movie and relaxed the rest of the night.
