As I made my way through the backstage area of Daily's Place, I couldn't help but think about the matches that were on the card for tonight. I was set to take on MJF tonight since we have been having problems for the past couple of weeks, and Cody figured it would be a good idea to have a match between the two of us to end this feud once and for all.
I was hoping to be able to give MJF his first loss tonight since he keeps bragging all the time that he is undefeated. I always told him that the only reason that he was undefeated was because he had Wardlow out there with him to help him cheat with that stupid diamond ring of his. I was on a mission to make sure that he wouldn't be able to use that against me tonight.
When I arrived at my locker room, I saw that my door was slightly open. I got a confused look on my face and slowly opened my door. The confused look on my face grew bigger as I saw Wardlow sitting on the couch scrolling through his phone. Wardlow looked up when he heard the door fully open and set his phone down on the couch beside him before standing up.
"What are you doing in here?" I asked him while shutting the door behind me.
"I wanted to come talk to you before your match tonight," Wardlow said putting his hands into his pockets.
I looked up at him, tilted my head, and raised my eyebrows.
"You know that MJF is going to try and use the Dynamite Diamond Ring tonight," Wardlow continued, no breaking eye contact with me.
"I'm aware," I said crossing my arms over my chest. "From what I remember, you're usually the one that gives it to him to use."
Wardlow looked down at the floor and scratched the back of his neck. I could see a guilty look on his face the whole time.
"Wardlow, what is your actual reason for being here?" I asked.
"I just don't want to see you get hurt tonight," He said looking up at me again. "I don't want to be the reason you get hurt."
I saw something flash in his eyes. It almost looked love, but that wasn't possible. I know people have been telling me that Wardlow has a crush on me, but I didn't believe that.
"I'm sorry, but why do you care?" I asked letting my arms drop to my side.
"Skylar, it doesn't matter why," Wardlow said running a hand through his hair. "I just don't want to see you get hurt."
I rolled my eyes and walked past him to get to my bag.
"I appreciate your concern, Wardlow," I said digging through my bag for my gear. "But I need to get ready, and I have a feeling that your master is going to be looking for you."
I looked over my shoulder at him and I could tell that he wanted to say something, but he just let out a frustrated sigh and walked out of the locker room, closing the door behind him. I stood there for a second thinking about the look I saw on his face, but shook the thought out of my head and moved on with my night.
Later...
I stood in the ring looking at my nails as MJF made his way to the ring. He was attempting to be intimidating but it wasn't working well for him. I'm not afraid of Wardlow, so I'm definitely not afraid of MJF. Once he was in the ring and Wardlow had exited, Aubrey signaled for the bell.
MJF stood there and mocked me for a minute before walking towards me bragging that this match was going to be quick. I rolled my eyes and took a note out of Bray Wyatt's book from back at Hell In A Cell and throat punched MJF as soon as he got into range. He immediately started coughing and holding his throat while looking at me shocked. I guess he expected me to just lay on the mat and give him the win, which there was no way in hell I was doing.
I tackled him to the ground and started laying punches on him since he was distracted with trying to breathe. Too quickly, however, MJF regained composure and overpowered me. He rolled us over and started laying punches into me. I brought my arms up to block and was able to grab one of his arms and put him into a submission move. He screamed out in pain as I yanked on his arm. Sadly, he was able to get to the bottom rope since we weren't too far from it.
The match continued back and forth and we were nearing the 20 minute time limit. I was sitting in the corner of the ring while MJF was outside the ring with Wardlow. I got up and decided to suicide dive him since he was distracted. I landed on him, before springing back up to my feet and throwing him back in the ring. I glanced over at Wardlow who ran a hand through his hair. My eyes flicked to his hand and noticed that he was wearing the diamond ring. I smirked at him a little bit before getting back in the ring and setting up for my finisher. Once I hit the finisher, I pinned MJF and nodded as Aubrey counted to 3.
I rolled off of MJF and sat up on my knees. I smiled as I listened to the crowd cheer and chant my name. I had given MJF his first lost in AEW, and I did it fair and square. Aubrey came over and helped me up before raising my hand to signal that I won the match. I stood there with a smile on my face as the crowd continued to cheer.
Suddenly, I was hit from behind and fell face first onto the mat. I flipped over onto my back just in time to see MJF start laying punches on me. I tried to bring my hands up to block his punches but he was able to pin my arms under his legs. I was trying my hardest to get MJF off of me but the fatigue from the match was settling in and I was starting to hurt.
In the blink of an eye, MJF was thrown off of me and sent across the ring. I laid my head back on the mat and took a few deep breaths to get air back into my lungs while I tried to ignore the pain all over my body. I felt myself being picked up and set back on my feet. When I got my balance, I looked to see who had helped me, and my eyes widened as I saw that it was Wardlow.
"What the hell are you doing!?" MJF yelled as he got up from the mat. "You belong to me! You answer to me!"
Wardlow just turned and stood in front of me so that MJF couldn't reach me anymore. I just stood there with a confused look on my face. I never thought that Wardlow would turn against MJF. I gasped as Wardlow punch MJF in the face, sending him to the ground. I guess he finally got tired of his bitching.
MJF rolled out of the ring holding his right cheek and looked a little bit frightened. Wardlow starred him down for a second before turning back to look at me.
"Why did you do that?" I asked, looking up at him.
Wardlow didn't say anything for a second, instead he just looked at me. As I was about to ask him again, he placed his hands on either side of my face and leaned down, pressing his lips to mine. I was stunned for a second before relaxing and kissing him back, placing my hands on his waist.
The crowd started cheering again while I could hear MJF trying to yell over them. Wardlow pulled away from me and turned to glare at MJF. It only took one look before MJF took off backstage. I giggled and crossed my arms over my chest. Wardlow chuckled before turning back to me.
"So that's why you decided to help me," I said with a smirk. "You just couldn't stand by and watched as he tried to hurt me."
"I wasn't going to let MJF hurt someone I care about," Wardlow said walking over and taking one of my hands in his.
I smiled up at him as he leaned down to give me another kiss. After he pulled away, the two of us made our way backstage to enjoy the rest of the show together and terrorize MJF in the process.
