Stefany

The empty spot beside me on the bed never made me feel so lonely. I sighed softly and rolled off my bed to start my day. I did my business, brushed my teeth, and washed my face before my route to the kitchen.

I pulled out a small pot to boil water for some morning tea, and I combined it with an omelete and a cup of mixed fruit for breakfast.

I got ready for the day and relaxed in the living room with my phone. I opened the text my boss chris sent me about an hour ago. He is nice enough to excuse me for another work night at the club.

Thank god because I could really use it. I'm grateful for how understanding he can be when it comes to all the twists and turns of my unexpected hardaches in my life. He's always been supportive about it.

I respond to his text with an appreciative thank you when there's a knock on my door.

I open the door in surprise when I see my brother.

"It's been a while. It's good to see you, sis." He speaks with a smile.

My face lights up as I pull him into a hug. "I'm so happy to see you."

The moment I notice my sister in law and niece behind him, I'm smiling from ear to ear.

I don't hesitate to pick up my niece and hug her tightly.

"I missed you, auntie." Her sweet little voice says.

"I missed you too."

I invite them inside, and they make themselves comfortable on the couch. As soon as I shut the door, my cousin Amara pops up to stop me.

I greet her with a hug and smile, but she looks defeated.

"What's wrong?" I ask.

My brother shook his head slowly. "Amara is being dramatic."

"I'm not being dramatic. You just don't understand." She says in response.

"You want to talk about it?" I ask her as I close the door behind us.

"Why? So you can call me dramatic too?" She asks.

I shake my head no. "Try me."

"My mom bought me VIP tickets for a concert on sunday night. It's an early birthday gift. The plan was to go with my best friend, but I found out last minute she can't go anymore. Mom's rule is that I can't go alone and I don't know what to do."

I can tell how upsetting this is for her.

"I can accompany you if you like." I volunteer without a second thought.

Her eyes widen, and a smile spreads across her face. "Really! You would do that for me?"

"Of course, I love music and concerts. Besides, I have nothing better going on this weekend." I speak.

Amara jumps up and down with excitement. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She yells at the top of her lungs.

"Woah! save some of that excitement and energy for the show. Who is this artist we're going to see? Is it worth vip tickets?"

"He's more than worth it. He's the king of toronto." She speaks with a proud smile.

My heart drops to my stomach. It better not be who I think it is.

"Drake right?" I hear my brother Kade take a guess.

Amara rolls her eyes. "Please! There's only one king of toronto, and that's the weeknd!"

I freeze in place, and don't even blink for a whole second.

"What? The weeknd has nothing on Drake." Kade says in disagreement.

Amara side eyes him. "You have no clue what you're talking about."

Kade waves her off dismissively, and Amara frowns at my reaction.

"If you're going to have this depressive resting face at the show, you shouldn't go. Do you not like his music?" She asks me.

"I never said I don't like his music, Amara."

"Well, why do you look like that?" She questions.

I should have asked her about the artist before agreeing, but it's too late for that.

"No reason." I lie.

I can't believe I did everything to avoid Abel at the club only to blindly agree to attend his concert with meet and greet tickets.

I can't get out of this one.
