I don't know what made me believe that leaving L.A. and flying back home to toronto would make me feel better, but it didn't. I was supposed to spend a whole week with my parents, but i'm upset with my dad after what he did to Abel. He apologized, but the only person he should be apologizing to is him. Speaking of Abel, he's been texting me a lot.

I haven't responded to any texts yet.

I open my thread of messages, and an unknown number catches my eye. I read the message.

Stefany, it's Jose. It's been a while. Things between us didn't end well. Breaking up with you was my biggest mistake. I let long distance put fear in me. I'm in town, can we meet up?

I don't bother to answer his text.

Jose was my very first boyfriend. Our relationship lasted for a year, and I was deeply in love with him. He's the one who made me forget about Abel.

I truly believed Jose was my soulmate and that we would get married and have kids.

That's until he moved away to L.A., and we broke up. My parents eventually moved out there, too.

That was my opportunity to be with Jose again.

But I decided not to move. My heart is Toronto.

I clicked on Abel's message thread.

From: Abel

Let's go to lunch? It's on me.

Stef, are you mad at me?

Can we forget about this whole situation for a moment?

Forget it, I tried…

I reply.

I'm not mad Abel, sorry I didn't answer earlier.

I send the message and call Marcela if she wants to have a girl time. I have a lot of free time to kill, and I might as well get out of the house for a while.

I get ready when she agrees.

As I wait on her, I walk into my son's room across from mine. The house and his room feel empty without him. My eyes roam around the baby blue colored walls and dragon ball theme. I miss him so much, especially when he's in here playing with his car toys and dragon ball figures.

I sit on his bed for a long minute when a knock pulls me out of my trance.

"Hey." I hear.

Marcela is standing at my son's doorway.

"Hey."

She walks over to his bed and sits beside me.

“I've come here so many times, I was always curious what this room was.“ She says, her eyes wandering around.

"I'm sorry I kept you in the dark about having a son. I have issues with trusting others. Especially when they find out who his father is.“ I speak.

“I understand, but if you can't trust me, why are we even friends? I trust you, why can't you trust me?“ She asks.

I sigh softly. “You're right.“

"Will you ever let me meet him?“ She asks.

“Of course, whenever he comes back. He's currently with his grandmother.“

She smiles. “You have pictures?“

I pull up a picture of him on my phone.

"Omg! He's so adorable. How old is he?“

I smile, too."He's turning three next month."

“He's such a cutie! It's like I've seen his face before.“ She says.

"He's his father's twin, if you know J.Cole, that's his daddy.“

I show her a picture of them together, and she's shaken.

"J.cole is your man?“

“He is.“

"You're so lucky! You know two famous people."

I shrug. "Famous people are humans just like you and me.“

"I know, but it's still cool."

Marcela asks me more questions out of curiosity, and I answer everything I can.

For our girl time we get our nails done, shop, and she accompanys for a new piercing.

I did a lot of shopping with Marcela and she finally took me back home.

As I carry all my bags upstairs, I smell Jermaine's familiar cologne lingering in the air.

I cry happy tears when I find them lying on my bed.

"Surprise, mommy!" Xavier yells with a big cheesing smile.

This is definitely a surprise, but it is one of the best surprises ever.

I throw the shopping bags aside and run to my son.

I embrace him tightly in a hug and attack him with kisses all over his cute little face.

“You have no idea how much I missed you, baby.“ I say.
