"I'm so excited," Biana squealed to Sophie over the phone. "I haven't gone trick-or-treating since sixth grade. This is going to be so much fun!"

"I know," Sophie said with a laugh. "I technically went with Tam and Dex last year, but we just scared a bunch of kids—we didn't get any candy out of it."

Biana laughed. "I remember Tam telling me about that last year. Anyway...so we're meeting at your house, right?"

"Yep," Sophie said, nodding to herself. "Then we're going to start driving around Dex's neighborhood."

"Sounds like a plan," Biana said. "Well, I'm going to start getting ready. See you in a few minutes."

"Yeah, bye." Sophie then hung up and leapt out of bed to her Witch costume that was hanging on her door handle.

She took it off the hanger and started to change into it. The dress went a little above her knees and she paired it with sheer leggings and a pair of black ankle boots. Lastly, she put the pointy hat atop her—a little crookedly—and grabbed a bucket shaped like a jack-o-lantern.

Sophie walked down the stairs, only feeling slightly awkward, and went to the living room and sat on the couch next to Grady and Edaline.

"Happy Halloween," She said with a laugh as Grady and Edaline stared at her outfit. "What?"

"Nothing," Edaline said. "We just didn't think you were being serious about going trick-or-treating."

"I wasn't going to originally," Sophie said with a shrug. "But we all agreed that we would because it's Tam and Linh's senior years—and Halloween is Tam's favorite holiday."

Edaline smiled and said, "That's so sweet," at the same time Grady said, "Halloween's spooky."

Sophie laughed, turning to face Grady. "That's kind of the point."

"I know," Grady said. "But I've honestly hated Halloween since—"

"The guy dressed up as a Werewolf chased you around your neighborhood with a plastic sword when you were six." Sophie and Edaline recited, stopping Grady's sentence.

"Exactly," He said with a shudder. "I never went trick-or-treating since then."

"Which is super sad," Sophie said. "Because you missed dressing up and getting candy."

"Actually," Grady said, crossing his arms. "I dressed up as a ghost and ran around my house trying to find the candy that my parents hid around the house every Halloween until I was ten years old."

"Wow, that's cool," Sophie told him—even though going trick-or-treating sounded way more fun.

All of sudden, the doorbell rang, and Sophie shot up from her seat. She skipped to the front door and let in Maruca and Biana.

"Oh my gosh!" Biana shrieked as the two girls walked in. "Your costume looks beautiful!"

Sophie's face turned a bit pink as she laughed. "Thanks—you both looked wonderful too!"

Biana was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood—and she looked absolutely wonderful. Her dress was white and red and the red cape she was wearing tied around her neck in a little bow. Her hood was up over her curled hair and she was holding a picnic basket.

Maruca looked super good too. She was dressed as a mummy and the wrapped dress she was wearing looked super cool. The dress had dirt and blood stains on it, her shoes looked like they were just bandages wrapped around her feet, and she carried a mummy-themed bucket.
