"It's so pretty," Biana said as they walked through the entrance of the gym. "I love the Fall Festival!"
Sophie gaped at all the autumn themed décor and all the people running around frantically trying to make everything seem perfect.
"It is beautiful," Sophie said. "I'm so sad I missed it last year,"
Biana nodded. "It was terrible that you weren't there—but now you get to experience it this year, so that's a good thing."
Sophie smiled. "Definitely,"
Sophie and Biana walked further into the gym until they finally spotted Linh putting golden tablecloths over all the tables.
"Linh," Biana called, causing Linh to look up at them. "Are you ready to go?"
Linh quickly checked the time on her phone and nodded. "Let me get Maruca—I'll be right there."
"Maruca?" Sophie asked Biana as Linh walked away. "What is she doing here?"
"She joined the yearbook committee at the beginning of the year this year," Biana explained, checking her hair in her phone's camera. "She really loves it,"
Sophie smiled when she remembered that Dex had told her Maruca had once made fun of the yearbook committee. Now she was literally a member!
Linh and Maruca started walking toward the two of them, so they started heading out of the school and to their cars.
"So...where exactly are we going?" Linh asked before they left.
Biana smiled. "You know the ice-cream-cake-candy-place? Just go there,"
Everyone got in their cars and started to drive to their groups regular hanging out place, except when they got there, there were only three vehicles there.
And they all were very familiar to them: a motorcycle, a blue car, and a white Jeep.
"What's going on?" Maruca asked as they all got out of their car and walked to the building.
Biana grinned even wider as they got closer. Once they got to the door, one of the workers opened it for them and inside was something that confused Sophie immensely.
All the tables and chairs had disappeared except for a big round table in the middle with seven seats. And in three of those seven seats were Dex, Tam, and Jensi.
All the lights were dimmed and everything about the place looked ethereal..
"This is amazing," Sophie breathed as they walked toward the table. "How'd you do this?"
The boys stood, Dex held out Sophie's chair for her, Tam did the same for Biana, Jensi did the same for Linh, and Maruca got hers pushed out by the waiter from the door.
"Tammy and I pulled a few strings," Biana said with a shrug. "I mean, he wanted to do something for you all since you helped him have a great Halloween, I suggested this and helped him out a little bit."
"Well thank you guys so much," Maruca said with a laugh. "This is wonderful,"
"And," Biana added. "It's like a pre-party meal. The Festival does start at 7:30, right?"
Linh and Maruca nodded.
"Good," She said, calling over the waiter. "Can you bring us some drinks to start?"
The waiter nodded and then started taking orders—including some food—before they were all eating and laughing and drinking coke products.
"So..." Sophie started, tapping her foot on the ground. "What exactly happens at the Fall Festival?"
The six of them shared a look before Linh and Maruca said, "You'll see,"
§§§
"You're going down Foster!" Biana yelled as she tossed the beanbag toward the cornhole board Sophie was standing next to.
The bag landed right next to Sophie's foot.
"Ha! You suck!" Dex yelled with a laugh.
"Wow," Sophie said as Biana pouted. "You guys are super serious about cornhole."
"It's not just about cornhole," Dex corrected, tossing the bag and landing it right in the hole. "This rivalry goes back to last year's Fall Festival."
"I wouldn't really call it a rivalry," Jensi said from where he was standing beside of Sophie. "It was more like a petty competition,"
"And why was I chosen to be roped into it?" Sophie asked as Dex threw another bean bag and landed them more points.
"Because," Biana said. "The rivalry was originally between me, Dex, Marella, and Jensi—but since Marella's not here anymore, we've decided to adopt you into it."
Sophie shrugged, deciding not to ask any more questions.
The rest of the game lasted five minutes, and after a few rounds, Sophie and Dex's team had won.
"Take that!" Dex said, giving Sophie a high-five. "Two years in a row!"
Biana crossed her arms. "Don't gloat Dex, that color doesn't look good on you,"
Dex's face turned red with embarrassment, but he was still smiling. "Whatever," Dex muttered. "Why don't we get some water?"
They all agreed and got a bottle of water from the cooler sitting in the grass. The four of them had spent the first half of the festival inside dancing, but then decided to go outside for the rest of it. Tam, Maruca, and Linh decided to stay inside because they complained that it was too cold outside.
"So, what do you guys want to do next?" Dex asked after he'd taken a few sips of water. "Because I'm in the mood for some basketball."
"Sure," Biana said before the three of them made their way to the basketball hoops.
The game started—with the same teams—and the two teams were always neck-and-neck, so it kind of made Sophie annoyed.
"We are going to win!" Biana tossed the ball and scored the point. "Ha! Take that Dizznee!"
"You think you're so good," Dex argued. "Well, take that!" He shot the ball and scored a point for he and Sophie.
And that was how all the other games they played that evening went. Sophie and Jensi kept sharing tired looks, so when Dex said, "Why don't we play cornhole again?" and pointed to the other side of the lawn, Sophie and Jensi groaned.
"But that's so far away," Sophie said. "We just got done playing a very tiring game, can't we, like, take a walk or something?"
"That actually sounds like a good idea," Jensi said, wiping a bit of sweat from his face.
"The Vackizznee rivalry will not be broken!" Biana shrieked before running off.
"Wait!" Dex called, chasing after Biana. "I thought we'd decided on Dizznacker?!"
