"Oh. My. Gosh." Keefe said, staring wide-eyed. "You've grown so much!"

Oakley ran to Keefe, licking his face over and over and over again. Keefe was laughing the whole entire time saying things like, "You're such a good girl" and "I missed you so much".

It was super sweet.

"Foster," Keefe said, putting the puppy down and facing her. "Thank you so much for taking care of her—and I'm sorry she ate your shoe."

Sophie shrugged. "It's fine. I mean, I got new ones for Christmas anyway."

After Christmas was over, Keefe had stayed a few nights at the Dizznee's, then, he'd come over to Sophie's house to see Oakley. His next plan was to move back into his old room at his dad's house until Christmas break was over.

Sophie had been concerned that Mr. Sencen would drive Keefe crazy, but Keefe had told her that he could deal with him and that he was only really doing it so he could see Ro.

"What do you wanna do now?" She asked his as he continued to pet Oakley. "We could go to the mall, get ice cream, grab some lunch, or—"

"Are you asking me out on a date?" Keefe asked with a smirk, cocking one eyebrow at her.

Sophie's face immediately turned red. "Uh, no. I mean, yes—well, what I mean is—"

"It's fine Foster," Keefe said with a laugh. "I'm just teasing you. I'd love to get some ice-cream."

And that was the moment Sophie's soul escaped her body.

Honestly, how could Keefe be so chill about something so embarrassing? It was seriously an annoying mystery to Sophie.

But Sophie pushed her feelings aside and grabbed Keefe's hand, leading them out to her car and getting in.

"Wait," Keefe said as Sophie put her key in and started the car. "Did you guys get a new horse?"

Sophie smiled at where Keefe was pointing at Greyfell. It'd been a few months and he'd finally calmed down enough to move in the same pasture with Silveny.

"Yep," She said, backing out of the driveway. "His name's Greyfell,"

Keefe grinned. "That's so cool,"

The rest of the drive was filled with jokes, disses, and backhanded compliments. Sophie had known she'd missed Keefe from the moment he'd left, but she felt like a part of her heart had come back and it made her happier.

"So, how's school going?" Keefe asked as she parked the car in front of the ice-cream-cake-and-candy-place. "Anything interesting?"

"Not really," She said with a shrug, getting out of the car. "Other than getting 3rd place in the talent show...there's really been nothing."

Keefe nodded, then smirked at her. "Have you done the favor I asked you to do?"

Sophie laughed as they walked up to the counter. She ordered herself cookies 'n crème, and Keefe ordered rocky-road.

"Not yet," She admitted as they waited for their ice-cream. "But I promise I will."

"Okay, I trust you to do this," He said with a laugh.

Sophie nodded. "I will,"

"Ah, home sweet home," Keefe said as they stared up at the impending gates of doom. "I missed this place."
