A Life and Death Love

Chapter 32: Farewell Mrs. Gilmore

"Please sit down and let me explain the situation." Dr. Sing asked the group.

They all sat down, Luke was holding Lorelai the same as Logan held Rory.

"Alright, Emily's body has started shutting down. We have put a catheter in but her kidneys aren't functioning. We have two options. 

The first option is to take her to the hospital and let her live what time she has left there, and the second option is to just let her stay here. Her body is shutting down, which can happen at Emily's age. 

"Isn't there anything we can do to save her?" Rory yelled.

"Unfortunately at her age, there isn't anything we can do to stop this. We can take her to the hospital and hook her up to life support but is that honestly what you want to do? I mean the choice is yours but even putting her on a machine to keep her alive her body still won't function."

"How long do we have if we leave her?" Lorelai asked. 

"I would say maybe three to five days, but no longer."

"Okay, give us a few moments please let us discuss this," Lorelai stated as she looked at Rory. 

"Ror, what would grandma tell us to do?"

"She would say it was her time, let her die in peace at home. She actually told me that when her time comes just let her go. She was ready to be with grandpa but mom I am not ready to lose her."

"I know, sweets but we have to stand by her wishes. So, Luke, you need to call the diner and the Inn and tell them what is going on. I am not leaving mom." 

"Logan, I don't want the kids here when she passes. I think they need to come to say their goodbyes, but then we need to get someone to watch them."

"Okay, baby I had Finn pick them up at school. We will allow them to say goodbye and then I will just get Finn and Rosemary to keep the kids, and if need be we can get Robert and Colin to rotate keeping them. I will go call Finn." He kissed her cheek and stepped outside. 

He dialed Finn's number and listened to it ring, once, twice, and Finn answered.

"Hey, Mate, any news?"

"Yes, and Finn it isn't good. The doctor said her body is shutting down and she will be gone in five days or less. Her kidneys aren't functioning right now. Lorelai and Rory have decided to allow her to stay here and they are going to stay with her."

"Oh, mate please tell Rory I am so sorry. Tell me what you guys need and we will do it. No questions. I hate that I always liked Emily."

"Well, we need someone to watch the kids. Rory wants them to stop and say their goodbyes and then keep them until Emily is gone. I need to be there for my wife right now."

"Done mate. I will pick them up from school and bring them by. We can get their clothes packed and they can stay here. I have already called Robert and Colin. They also volunteered for any help you guys need."

"Thanks, Finn we really appreciate all the help. You, Colin, and Robert can rotate the kids as need be. I have to get back to Rory she isn't doing good at all right now."

"Okay, mate go take care of love, and we will be there soon. Tell Rory we are all thinking of her right now."

"I will thank you, Finn. I will go get their bags packed so they will be ready when you get here." He hung up and walked back inside."

Rory was hugging her mom, and they were both crying. Luke was standing there patting both of their shoulders. 

"Hey, baby Finn and the guys are going to keep the kids. Finn is going to bring them by to see their grandma before they go to his house tonight. I am going to go pack their bags." He walked over after she let go of Lorelai. He pulled her into his lap and held her.
