"I'll assume you ran into issues regarding your homeroom teacher. It's the first time I'ver ever seen a student be sent to the headmaster's office five minutes into the new school year." Nijimura commented after opening the door of the headmaster's office for Ban to enter.
"You don't need to sound so condescending. It's not my fault that guy's a massive jackass." Ban grunted in response, tossing his school bag onto a nearby couch and then sitting across the headmaster's desk.
"I don't recall asking your opinion on the matter, either." Nijimura answered, closing her door. "If you are unable to mantain a decent attitude on your first day, then I don't believe someone like you has a place in this-"
"Nijimura-san, that's enough." Headmaster Endo spoke, slightly raising his right hand as a signal for Nijimura to put an end to her small rant. "Ban Katsuhito-kun, correct? I remember briefly seeing you when your parents came to our enrollment meeting. Your homeroom teacher is Eguchi-sensei, if I'm not mistaken, correct?"
"How the hell is a guy like that a teacher? He treated all of the students like crap, not even just me! How are you gonna do all that your fancy speech said with some guy who swears during class in your school?!"
"Ban-kun, that's enough. There's no need to get heated over Eguchi-sensei's antics. Despite his more than questionable attitudes, Eguchi-sensei is one of the oldest teachers at this school and a vital member of the teacher body. He might say what he says and act like he acts, but he means well. Alot of his students end up getting into good colleges and scoring some of the better grades of the school. A prime example would be a pair of students of class 2-D, Sawada Izuru-kun and Hanagata Aimi-san. Not only do they always end up in the top three every midterm and semester final, but they're also members of the student council."
"Yeah, right. I got kicked out of class because of him being a bias cunt." From the corner of his eye, Ban could see the less than favourable reaction of the assistant to the mention of one of the students.
"I believe you should try to cooperate with Eguchi-sensei, at least for the first few weeks. I do believe that kicking you out due to your background is wrong and will discuss with him that matter. Should you choose to do it, you can come here in one month's time to ask to be transfered to another class." Endo explained.
"That'll do. Can't believe I have to go back to some bias shitter like that for a month." Ban angrily grunted under his breath.
"I believe that ends our discussion, Ban-kun. Please return to your classroom."
"Yeah, yeah. One more thing, about that thing I sent the other day." Ban said as he grabbed his bag and threw it over his shoulder. "About joining the Royalty. How's that?"
"Ah, right. I'm sorry for not giving you an answer soon. We are still analyzing the current members and candidates, I should be able to give you an answer in less than a week's time. Apologies on the behalf of Heiwa Academy for taking this much time."
"Yeah, thanks."
After Ban left the office, Nijimura followed him and closed the door behind, to assure he'd return to his classroom instead of possibly running off somewhere and skip class. Even though Ban started to walk away, something grabbed his interest and he stopped, looking back at the assistant.
"What was that reaction when the headmaster said those students? You hate them? I saw your eyebrow twitch back there."
"I have nothing against president Hanagata-san, if that's what you're refering too." Nijimura explained, her arms behind her back. "And how I feel regarding the secretary is none of your concern. I believe you have a class to return too."
"Yeah, yeah, I believe this, I believe that, we're all just a bunch of believers." Ban said under his breath as he left.
"May I ask you something, Endo-sama?" Nijimura asked as she returned to the office and close the door. "Are you really considering this student as a possible member of the Royalty?"
"And get labelled as the school who's Royalty has a teacher beater? You overestimate my investments, Nijimura-san." Endo sighed and looked out at the window. "Ban Katsushito-kun is nothing more than a long term investment for Heiwa. Do you believe I'd accept a student like him into my school without a good reason? If he graduates from this school with a clean record and decent grades, Heiwa will be seen as a school that can change delinquents for the better at the eyes of the public. He's not the first big delinquent to try to enter Heiwa, but he's the only one to get accepted since he seems more promising than the others. In fact, I do believe I still have most of his information in my memory. He's slightly below average in things like Social Studies and History, but has a remarkable English grade for someone like him. Then again, you'd expect one of the two heirs of the Ban family's conglomerate would be good in at least that. Other than that, he was the best cardfighter in his school and an activate members in some clubs, such as the boxing club, and most surprising, the japanese archery club. Nonetheless, he was seen as an aggressive ticking bomb by some students, and that all came to fruition after he decided to assault the now retired Yamagishi-sensei. Having a terrible student like him, with a background like his, who's already disliked by some teachers and students alike, as a member of the Royalty, the King at that, would only ruin all the work I've done to better this school. He's in this school because his rehabilition may bloom into something great for the school, and if not, I'm sure reasons to expel him before he graduates will surge."
"In another words, you accepted him as a guinea pig to raise Heiwa's fame?" Nijimura asked.
"If I wanted a guinea pig, I'd personally go out of my way to obtain a more promising one. Ban Katsuhito-kun is quite similar to Sawada Izuru-kun in this particular aspect. When no school would accept failures like them, I brought them in to become tools in the raising of Heiwa's name. The only thing that sets them apart is that Sawada-kun came directly to this school after graduating from middle school. Ironic, considering you were already working here as my assistant."
"Endo-sama, I advocated and still advocate for his expulsion. Just because one year passed like it was nothing, there's no way we can be sure he won't return to his old ways."
"But I don't care about how you felt regarding him, Nijimura-san. I thought that part was already made clear. With a name like his, any other school would have taken him in in a heartbeat. Someone with his talents would be misused by other schools. It was only logical that he'd come here. I believe only Heiwa can use his talents to the fullest."
"I see. My apologies for the unrequired opinion, Endo-sama." Nijimura said with a slight frown.
"Either way, I can understand your reasons, but as an asset, he's too valuable to be used by another school. Nijimura-san, may you go get me some tea?"
"R-right, of course, Endo-sama."
"And one more thing. I'd like to ask you something, Nijimura-san. Do you believe we live a world that values equality?"
"Hm? Hardly. We live in a world based on merit, if anything. Society values one's actions and accomplishments above the rest. If someone puts in the time to work hard to accomplush what they desire, then they'll be given a better future than the rest."
"I see. That's all. Oh and do tell her about Ban-kun's attempt to enter the Royalty. Maybe she could make something useful with that. I'm sure that by the end of the day, the rumour will have spread like wildfire."
"Understood. Excuse me." Nijimura bowed and left the room.
"A world based on merit, hm?" Endo chuckled at himself as he got up from his chair and looked out at the school gates from his window. "I wouldn't expect any other assumption from an ignorant who has done nothing worthwhile with her life."
