April 6th
4:00 AM London, United Kingdom
Amila King hadn't gotten used to the morning sickness.
It seemed as though the more she thought about it the more it affected her. She hadn't been able to sleep all night and would get frequent flashes of heat and nausea that required her to get out of bed. She sat upright against her headboards, the pounding of her heart in her head as she inhaled deeply.
She had never wanted to go through the experience of being pregnant alone. Her family offered her support but having spoken about it with Hakeem, she wished he was present for it. Sadness washed over her as she remembered the days they had spoken about starting a family together. They were so close to spending the rest of their lives together and she wasn't sure they could ever get those days back.
As if he knew she was thinking about him her phone began to ring out and she answered it not looking and noticing it had been him who called her.
"Hello?" she said groggily, rubbing at her face. "Hello?."
"Amila?" she heard his voice and gasped ending the call and looking at the phone in disbelief. She felt a wave of nausea come at her and she rushed to the bathroom to be sick again. She dry heaved for a while before lazily getting up to clean her face and brush her teeth.
Her phone rang again and this time she saw his name on her caller ID. She had a lot to tell him but she didn't want to do it over the phone, but she hadn't heard his voice in so long. Reading the texts he sent her made her upset she wasn't sure how she'd fare listening to his voice again. She decided to answer his call anyway; she slumped down onto her bathroom floor her head in her hands as she pressed accept.
"Amila, please don't hang up." Hakeem's strained voice came out of the other end, he seemed shaken up and Amila shook her head before realising he couldn't see her.
"I won't" she whispered.
"I miss you so much, and I'm so sorry I hurt you." he started and Amila felt as though she would've burst out into tears "I wasn't even sure you would answer."
"I didn't know it was you." she said calmly, "I just thought since we haven't really spoken..."
"I know. Amila we need to talk properly." Hakeem said, "Face to face because I don't want to have to talk over the phone anymore."
"We do, I have to tell you something."
"Did something happen?"
"No... I can't tell you now, it has to be face to face." the two fell into a comfortable silence before Amila spoke again, "Why are you calling so late?"
"Things have been really crazy tonight. We thought we almost lost Ehsan and-"
"Is everyone alright?" Amila sat straighter concern in her voice.
"We're alright, Ehsan's going to pull through. Just promise me you won't look at the news today." Hakeem said seriously he didn't want her to worry.
"You'd tell me if something happened right? Even though we're not together anymore."
"I would, but I just don't want you to hear it over the phone." Hakeem sighed, "Maybe you could come here again, just for a few days so we could talk."
"I'll think about it," Amila said warily, "I missed you."
