Heer sat on her bed reading the latest article about the Saleh royal family when King Hakeem the second entered. He tried to open the door quietly, but paused when she looked up at him her eyebrow raised before she rolled her eyes and flicked the page.

She was supposed to love her husband, she was supposed to feel a burning desire for him for the rest of their lives. After all, that's what she felt when she first fell in love with him, there's had been a forbidden romance the Americanised Qaihran who fell in love with the crown prince, the two families who hated each other united in their children's love for one another.

But here she was, falling slowly into hate for the man she had sworn to love for the rest of her life.

"You are still up my love?" Hakeem said taking his shoes up and loosening his tie, walking around changing into his nightclothes. He couldn't bring himself to look at her.

Queen Heer was in a nightgown her face freshly washed as she also chose to ignore her husband as he got into bed. She had been sure for a while about his affairs but until he owned up to her and told her she wasn't going to engage in a conversation unless it was about the business of running the Saleh family.

"How was your day?" he tried again trying to kiss his wife on the cheek. Heer moved away before putting her magazine away and turning to Hakeem.

"Amir and Hakeem were amazing at the garden opening today, Leyla sweet as usual," she said almost robotically. Hakeem clenched his fists in irritation. He wished for once Heer would at least show emotion when it came to him; their relationship had been strained for the past year and though he loved her he was struggling to maintain the will to be in her presence.

His affairs had started to just annoy her and he thought if she felt jealous she would show more affection but she hadn't. Instead, she had thrown herself into work and then he fell into the trap of his mistresses.

But if there was one thing that was certain it was that Hakeem Al- Jaber the second did not love any of them, until the day he died his heart would belong to Queen Heer Marwan Saleh.

"You know what a royal family appearance means Hakeem?" Heer started. "It means the King, the Queen and their children."

"I know."

"People were asking about you today."

"I know."

"Do you?  It seems like you don't because I don't know how you have the audacity to take your mistress out on the yacht you named after me and gifted me on our anniversary, miss out on your duties and then crawl back into bed and ask me how my day went!" Heer's voice rose, her patience was incredibly thin.

"I don't know what you are talking about Heer," Hakeem said clenching his teeth. "Are you accusing me of having an affair?"
