Author's Note: Since this story was started before everything went crazy, I wasn't going to really worry about writing it into the story. I also wanna give every reader a break from the outside world. I know it's kind of shitty out there and I hope you all enjoy it. Also to those that celebrate Happy Thanksgiving! -V
-Hope's POV-
So Dad's finally home from tour. It was fun to be able to go see him preform. I'm surprised that I didn't get into any trouble. I guess, actually no I know that if it weren't for Ashley I would have gotten into trouble. Today is Thanksgiving and Dad invited the whole band over which means Ashley gets to come over. That's partially the reason the band is even coming over. Once I had explained to Dad that Ashley and I usually did a small little Thanksgiving celebration growing up, he contacted Tre to see if they wanted to come over. Dad didn't want Mike to felt left out so it just became the whole band.
"Hope, Ashley's here!" Adrienne yelled up to me. Adrienne was practically the only one downstairs. Dad would go down to help but would get yelled at because he didn't know what he was doing. I on the other hand just didn't really know what to do because I'm used to eating a little bit of cake that Ashley and I would buy together while sitting at a park. So instead of getting told to leave because I didn't know what to do I stayed in my room laying on my bed. Which meant that I would have to get up and go downstairs to get Ashley. Which is exactly what I did. "Coming!" I yelled back once I made it to my door. I ran down the stairs, gladly not injuring myself. "Dude, you just saw me a couple of days ago there is no need to act like this." Ashley said. "Because I need to tell you something." I said. "Okay?" She stated sounding confused. "Why don't you just do it down here then?" She asked. "I can't." I said. "You can't or you won't?" She asked. "Can't." I said grabbing her arm. "Now come on." I said dragging her to my room.
"So, what is this thing you need to tell me about?" She asked as she walked over to my bed to sit on. I shut and locked my door. I didn't nor wanted anyone to hear what else I was about to say. After doing all of that I walked over to my bed and stood in front of it. "I want to ask Adrienne to adopt me. I know that it's been a while, but she's become my mother especially since I never really knew my real one." I said. "Are you being serious?" She asked. "Yes. I know that there have been some ups and downs when it comes to her, but I finally have a woman in my life that I can call mom. I want to take up that opportunity and do it." I said. "I think that's a great idea. When do you plan on asking her?" She asked. "Christmas maybe. I haven't really thought about when I would ask her just that I did want to ask her. It may be later just so that I can think about it more." I said twiddling with my fingers. "I think that it's an amazing idea. I do think that it's important for you to feel comfortable when asking her. This will affect your future. If for any reason you feel like you're rushing it don't do it." She said. I nodded my head understanding where she was coming from. I was, no am, scared to ask Adrienne. I don't know if she'll accept it and I think that is terrifying to me. I mean does she even want to be considered my mother. "Hope, come back to me. I know that this is scary and you will over work yourself, but don't let your mind wonder too much. I will be there every step of the way. I will have your back no matter the outcome of this." Ashley said. "I'm so scared. What if she were to say no?" I asked. "I don't think she'll say no. I understand that this is scary, but I don't think that's the thing you should be worried about. I think you should be more worried about how you plan on asking her to adopt you. Also how do you know she hasn't already signed the papers?" She asked. "I found the papers, she never did sign them." I said. "Hey, we will get through this together. But I think we should head back down to the adults and see what is going on down there." She said. "Yeah. That's a good idea." I said. "Maybe it'll get your mind off of everything." She said standing up and wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
We walked back down the stairs and to the kitchen. "I'm glad you two are down here. I was going to have your father go up and grab you both. It's time to eat. Go and sit down at the table." Mom said. Ashley and I then walked into the dinning room where everyone else had been. "How have you been Hope? It feels like it's been awhile since we've talked?" Mike asked. Although he's in Dad's band, we never really talked. Actually I don't really talk to any of them. I don't think Ashley talks to them either. "I've been doing good." I said once again twiddling my thumbs under the table. "How about you Ashley?" Mike then looked over to Ashley. "It's been good." Ashley said with a smile on her face. "So, what did you guys do while we weren't here?" Mike asked. "Tried to keep this one out of trouble. That was one of the hardest things I had to do." Ashley said causing everyone else to laugh. "It's not my fault trouble is my middle name." I said putting my hands up in surrender. "I wonder who's fault it could be." Ashley said. I laughed knowing that she was going to blame my Dad. I shook my head with a smile forming on my face.
Soon, Mom finished putting everything on the table and sat down. "Why don't we go around the table and say what we are thankful for." Mom said. Everyone agreed. "I think Ashley or Hope should go first." Dad said. "I'll go first then." Ashley said. "I'm thankful that I got to stay with my best friend who has been the best sister a girl could ask for. I'm also thankful for being able to get to have a family finally." Ashley said. "I'm thankful that I get to be apart of my Dad's life. I never expected to be adopted, yet somehow I was able to be adopted by my father himself. I'm also glad to be able to experience all of these new things with Ashley still by my side." I said. I made eye contact with Dad and saw him tearing up a bit.
Once everyone was done, we were finally able to eat. Everyone settling into their own little worlds having many different conversations. "Here's to a new happy life." Ashley said lifting her cup over to me. "Cheers." I said lifting mine to hers. We both smiled. Never in my life did I expect to experience a life like this. I thought Ashley and I would continue to eat cake by ourselves in a park.
"For dessert, we have a cake for Ashley and Hope. The other desserts are in the kitchen you all can go grab whatever you would like." Mom said coming out with a cake. "You two are allowed to go out and eat this outside. I know it's no park, but I don't want to take away something you two constantly did. Your father told me about what you two would do and I felt bad that you couldn't really experience that this year." Mom said handing the cake over to Ashley. Mom then gave me some forks. Ashley put the cake down before we both hugged her. Then Ashley picked the cake up before we started to head outside. "If you don't ask her to adopt you, I will ask her to adopt me." Ashley whispered. "I know." I said. "Just make sure you are good with it, don't let anyone push you to do it." She said. I nodded. We sat outside talking to each other about random things while eating our cake. Man am I glad I now have a family that loves and cares for me. "This isn't some weird dream, right?" I asked. "I don't think so. If this is I never want to wake up from it." Ashley said. "It's nice to finally have families." I said. "That I can agree with you on." Ashley said. "We should head in since we're done." I said. "Yeah. You're right." Ashely said. We both got up and walked to the house. This was nice. I just really hope this isn't some dream, I'll be so mad if it turns out to be a dream.
