The woman gulped loudly, then nodded. I wanted to jump for joy at how willing she was going to talk to me.
Finally, a kind soul.
"For starters what's your name?" I asked, curious as to who I was talking to exactly.
She spoke up louder than usual, a think African accent following after.
"My name is Yimani Hasoot." She answered almost proudly. This was the loudest I had heard her speak since I had been here."What is your name?" She asked kindly, her voice raising at the end of the sentence.
"I'm Destiny Camp. Can I ask you a question?" I asked, trying not to bombard her with so many of them.
She nodded, keeping her dark brown orbs focused on my lighter ones."What exactly am I supposed to do here?" She laughed lightly, her voice deep yet feminine.
"All patients are to be treated here everyday from group sessions so neurological practices. Although I do not agree with a lot of the practices, I still listen to what I am instructed. Everyday, at 8 sharp, I give you your breakfast and at 8:30 pm I will give you your supper. Between then James will serve your lunch."
I listened, uncertain of the 'practises' that the mentioned earlier."You will have at least one group session per day. One is held at night and another in the morning after breakfast, you can choose which one to go to or both if you prefer. The woman at the front desk will announce the times they are available to you." She continued, her voice sounding proper yet relaxed as if she's spoken like that all of her life.
I just listened, gaining as much knowledge of the place that I could.
"There is an hour a day set to your leisure of watching television, playing cards, playing video games, or just talking. There is also a garden that, with good behavior, you are allowed to visit every so often."
"Yimani I have a question." She hummed encouraging me to continue.
"Do you believe someone could be admitted here against their own will?" I was hoping I could maybe get her to understand my case.
Her brows furrowed. "No one wants to come here, almost everyone is placed here against their own will whether it be them guilty of a crime against sanity, or a disorder that a regular doctor couldn't treat."
"Well what about someone who was possibly kidnapped, completely fine from disorders and mental illness, and placed here with no recollection of why their here. " At this point I wasn't asking, I was telling and from the looks of it she was catching a hint.
Her eyebrows furrowed and her eyes widened slightly. She went to open her mouth and say something before the intercom blared throughout the building."Dietician needed in the main office please..."
Yimani closed her mouth, then started for the door.
Disappointment spread throughout my body, just when she was beginning to understand me.Before she fully walked out the room she turned around and a small smile graced her thick lips.
"We will talk soon." Her voice was once again hushed, yet delicate.
I reciprocated her smile, feeling warmth radiate from her aura, before she disappeared behind the pale thick door.I didn't eat. Although my stomach was disagreeing with my choice too many thoughts were swimming in my head.
I couldn't sleep, I was sick of sleeping from the shots and the exhaustion. I felt as if I might actually go crazy.Suddenly the thought of the locks on the door came to mind. Yimani opened it without keys, so did Nicholas. Maybe it wasn't locked?
I slowly walked to the door, trying to be quiet for no one in particular. I sighed, grabbed the handle, and twisted it.
No click.
I suddenly grew furious at the fact that I was here. That I had to be forced here against my will, that I went to Sam's stupid pity party which got me into this mess.
I want to go home, and even though it doesn't feel like it to me, just the familiarity was fine enough for me.I angrily walked over to the bed, threw the covers up and layed down. I didn't bother taking off my shoes, I just wanted to curl up and forget about everything that's happened since I woke up here.
That night I cried myself to sleep, wishing what couldn't be undone with a few hopes and wishes.
When I woke up, I looked over to see the food tray replaced with a new one. Yimani must have switched out my untouched dinner with breakfast.
My stomach growled loudly, and for a second I thought about ignoring it, but I chose to be nice to it and actually eat something.I groggily got up and walked over to the desk, grabbed the metal tray, and brought it back to the bed.
I looked at the poor excuse of breakfast which was a almost burnt piece of toast, some off colored eggs, and a glass of orange juice. I gulped down the juice, then forced myself to eat the toast and eggs. I placed the tray back down and walked back over to the bed. For about thirty minutes I just layed there, contemplating on what I should do or how I could get out."Morning group is now in session, please make your way to room B28 for further instructions..."
I rolled my eyes, how the hell do they allow us to get out for that?
