Esme's POV

It grew darker and darker as the night reached closer and closer. I was far enough away from everyone but not too far from the edge of the arena. I decided to set camp in a small cave near a river. It was small and well hidden; a tall tree was covering the entrance. My stomach growled. I need to hunt some food.

I go out as the sun set slowly, I soon spot a squirrel drinking from the river. I swiftly swung my knife at it and kill it without fuss. I hear a twig snap quite closely. I stand still and grip my knife tightly. The rustling of clothes behind me turn my head.

It was the female victor from district 1. She can't sleep in the open, she'll be dead by morning. Though, I've seen her train, she is incredibly stealthy. If she doesn't die, she'll get me. I need to take the competition out. I creep up to her side.

She looks so peaceful, but so tense. I quickly cover her mouth as she tries to grab me. She attempts to bite me but I remain unfazed as the blood pours out. I take my knife and hold it to her throat. I feel her body shake beneath, and her tears stain my hands.

"I'm sorry." - Esme

I move the knife across the throat. As soon as I feel her body grow limp, I take her shirt to replace my own. I quickly take any possessions that may help me, my squirrel and slide down into my base.

I never thought about taking someone's life. Growing up, it was deemed a crime even the devil couldn't commit. But here I am, her blood painted my hands and knife. These games don't make you winners, they make up monsters. Worse than the devil.

Time Skip

I start to grow weary and tired after my supper. Suddenly, I hear canons fire. I go to peak outside with my face pressed against the bark. I look up to the sky and see the Panem logo and a bunch of tributes, meaning their dead.

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14. Fourteen dead out of 24. Thankfully haymitch wasn't in there. I need to meet up with him at some point.
