TW: Nightmares/Night terrors, gore references, fire, swearing
Esme's POV
Waking up again in a cold sweat. Images of corpses, blood and death flash before my drained eyes. My throat parched I go to sip my water to only find a blue orchid. I burrow my eyes as I hear someone grunt. I look to see haymitch in his comfort clothes leaning against my door frame with a some breakfast.
He walks over and shares the bread with me. We eat in silence. The bread isn't as it is in the capitol. It's hard falling back into old habits again.
"Can I stay here tonight? My parents are being assholes again." - Haymitch
"Yeah sure, your sister can stay too, Emilia?" - Esme
"Yeah, thanks." - Haymitch
He stands up and kisses my head lovingly making me grin widely as he walks away to get on with the rest of his day.
Time Skip to the evening
Me and haymitch were laying in bed as we were waiting for Adam to pick Emilia up from her house so we can meet her. I didn't have the chance before, from what I've herd she seems very generous and loves singing.
Suddenly, Adam comes bursting through my room, we both sit up in urgency. Burrowing our eyebrows together. He looks very hot, his forehead was sweating. His clothes were covered in soot.
"Your house has been set on fire!" - Adam
Haymitch's eyes grow in an intensive fear. He jumps immediately from the bed and runs down the cobble path to his house. We could see the heavy and thick smoke from the victors village.
"What's going on!?" - Daniel
He says from the porch with Abigail.
"Stay there! Don't leave! If peacekeepers come, run!" - Esme
I say running out of breathing trying to keep up with haymitch. We could hear bells and shouting from where we where. The smoke rose high into the sky as it suffocated everyone.
As I managed to reach haymitch's house, I just saw him in his knees with tears forming in his eyes. I couldn't even do anything. People were calling inside for his parents and sister. The door is knocked down to see 3 brave men carrying out 3 bodies; Tanner, brealynn, and Emilia.
"NO! NO! DONT LET IT BE TRUE! THEY CANT BE DEAD!" - Haymitch
His cries over came him as he sobbed uncontrollably in his ash covered hands. I knelt beside him as he grips my shoulders tightly, sobbing uncontrollably. All I could do is hold him, a destroyed man who is being destroyed again.
"There gone....there gone...esme..." - Haymitch
Was all he could repeat for multiple hours. Late into early hours. As we watched the childhood home burn time ash and burned wood.
