TW: Yelling, arguing, slapping

Esme's POV

It was 9:30 am, the entire district was awaiting for our speech. I was dressed in a white dress as haymitch was paired in a simple cotton shirt and black trousers with shoes. We were given cards to read out to for the district.

As we enter the stage I was overwhelmed with everything. There was two podiums with two young children on the screens and their families standing underneath them. The rest of the district stood in rows in front of the stage. Peacekeepers surrounded the entire places with alarming guns in their hands.

"Hello, I am haymitch Abernathy and this is Esme Grace Sullivan. We are here to talk about the bravery of your hero's." - Haymitch

"Y-yes, Olivia and Malcolm. From what I've heard and seen, they were brilliant fighters and carried so much courage and support with them...." - Esme

They were both so young, only 12. Siblings. Torn from their mothers arms to fight for the life for this so called justice. Haymitch pulls me in and asks me;

"Do you want me to read?" - Haymitch

I nod as he carries on with the speech with his arm around my waist. The rest do the speech was all blurred as all I could see were each of the families torn apart.

"Panem, for now. Panem forever." - Haymitch

Haymitch and I wave goodbye before exiting into the justice housing.

"What the hell was that!? Your meant to be strong! What were you doing!? You made yourself look weak!" - Farren

She yelled at me till I was cornered by her. Haymitch pulls her by her tensed arm and slaps her cheek, with the sound echoing throughout the room.

"What the hell do you think your doing!? Shouting at her for being vulnerable? You can't do that! She is already traumatised as it is, we don't need you making it worse enough as it is for her!" - Haymitch

He helps me up and picks me up birds style and carries me up to an empty room upstairs. Shutting the door, haymitch places me back down on the ground and embraces me as tears stains his shirt.

"I know sweetheart, I know it's hard. It's 11 more days, just 11." - Haymitch
