Lumanti felt like both laughing and screaming out loud at her situation and the things revolving around her. She wanted to scream and shout at this person sitting next to her, but she didn't know anymore what a right response to all the information would be. She showcased calmness on her face while quandary made its home in her mind.
A tiny droplet of water fell on her face. The dark clouds above was not resisting anymore and was ready to fall heavily upon them. It was starting to rain so they decided to leave before the heavy downpour. Aaron opened his car's passenger door for her and got into driver's seat after. He told her that if she would like to go somewhere to eat something as she hadn't ate anything since she left hospital but she denied, and asked instead if he could drop her off at her place. He agreed. He quickly turned on the AC to keep her warm as she was shivering in cold. While he was about to start a car, she said in a calm fashion,
"Have they already chosen a girl for you?"
Getting his hand away from the ignition, he said, "No I told them that I want to focus on my career first and am not willing to marry any one unless I have a secured future, so that they will get off my back about it."
"That's a good choice of words, right there," she said it rather sarcastically.
"I am sorry. I am sorry about everything. I thought you left me even then I didn't want to settle down and marry anyone they chose for me, so I had to say that, T, you have to understand, I did not want to disappoint you. I was stupid to jeopardise what we had."
"I guess you were trying to please your parents." her sarcasm was not leaving anytime soon.
"I guess so" He sighed.
"But I did try to find you and contact you so many times." He turned his body towards her, but she just stared at the rain splattering on the windshield.
"Until the time you saw me ignore you and decided that is it," she retorted.
"I felt like I deserved it. I was not able to give a proper answer or solve our circumstances."
"No, you just decided that I wasn't good enough for your family," she said in a harsh tone. There was certain level of comfort now, that made her able to be angry with him and speak frankly about what is in her head.
"No no Lumanti, you would be the best person. You are the most amazing person I know."
"So I am sorry, when we were dating, you knew from the beginning that you would go with the decision of your parents?", she said ignoring what he just said.
"At beginning, we were not serious about the future", he paused and said, "until we were."
"And that scared you?" she said in her sarcastic tone. He did not deny it to her surprise.
"Yes, I was scared but not because of the future with you. I feared the implications of my choices."
"So, what is this? Why are you still talking to me? Why don't we just end it already, officially?"
The clouds were rumbling and there were few flashes of lightning as the rain fell heavily above them and into their windshield. They were safe inside the parked car for now from the weather outside but the confrontations inside was more discomforting. It felt like a silence before a big storm. He was hurt by her words so he just turned his key in the ignition and drive his car outside of the place it was parked. He drove silently for a while and took a turn at nearby drive thru to get her something to eat. He spoke into the microphone and ordered for some burger, fries and latte for both of them even when she insisted on being not hungry. He made the payment and drove towards other side to get their food. After thanking the server, he drove again while handing her the bag of food. She took the bags from him unconsciously, out of habit.
